This post will be in the general haematology service supporting haemoglobinopathy, haemostasis and laboratory haematology. The post holder will work alongside the existing Consultant Paediatric Haematolgists for general haematology.The haemoglobinopathy and hemostasis services are the largest units outside of London with over 400 registered haemoglobinopathy and over 400 registered inherited bleeding disorders. Manchester has been recently appointed the sickle cell coordinating centre for the North West and Thalassaemia coordinating center for North England. The unit is active in research, clinical trials and stem cell therapies.Please see detailed job description for further detailsMain duties of the jobApplications are invited for this substantive post based in Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.This post will join Consultant Paediatric Haematologists in general haematology. This post will be supporting haemoglobinopathy, haemostasis and laboratory haematology services.The haemoglobinopathy and hemostasis services are the largest units outside of London with over 400 registered haemoglobinopathy and over 400 registered inherited bleeding disorders. Qualifications and Training
Essential

  • MBChB or equivalent
  • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent MRCPCH/MRCP
  • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent FRCPath
  • Relevant clinical experience in Haemoglobinopathy
  • Good team-working skills

Desirable

  • Eligible for specialist registration in Haematology. Should be on the specialist register or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT or equivalent at interview
  • MD, PhD, or other higher degree
  • Relevant clinical experience in Laboratory Haematology
  • Post graduate qualification or equivalent

Teaching and Audit
Essential

  • Teaching medical students
  • Teaching junior medical staff

Desirable

  • Experience of Audit

Academic Achievements and Research
Desirable

  • Publications in peer reviewed journals or a demonstrable commitment to developing research within this field in the Trust

  • Full registration with the GMC
