We are looking for a Consultant in Palliative medicine to join our integrated palliative care team to work across the county.The Primary responsibilities will be to deliver specialist palliative care services delivered within Cornwall.This will include collaborating with the Specialist Palliative Care nurses in the local acute trust (NHS) offering an in reach, supportive service to this team and the wider hospital where required, and the Community Specialist Care Nursing teams (NHS)In addition the role will work on site with the local Cornwall Hospice Care which currently has x2 – 10 bedded units in the county.Main duties of the jobReview patients with complex palliative care needs and support to the specialist nurses in Acute hospitals, community and hospices.Provide supervision and educational activities to medical students, junior doctors and system-wide multidisciplinary teams.To be accessible to the wider healthcare professional community in the ability to offer timely advice and expertise in the management of patients with specialist palliative care needs.About usWe’re an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Qualifications
Essential

  • Completed MRCP
  • CCT in Palliative Medicine

Desirable

  • Relevant Higher Degree e.g., MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications

Experience
Essential

  • Experience in assessing and treating patients with palliative care needs in inpatient, out-patient and community settings.
  • Knowledge and evidence of participation in CPD

Desirable

  • Experience of working across different SPC settings, including charitable sector.

Skills
Essential

  • Previous experience in taking a leadership role in several multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring high quality care and staff morale.
  • Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work.
  • Ability to appraise own performance
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Desirable

  • Evidence of specific achievements that demonstrate leadership skills.

Teaching
Essential

  • Commitment to and experience of undergraduate and postgraduate learning and multi-disciplinary teaching
  • Understanding of the principles of teaching.

Desirable

  • Organisation of further teaching programmes in medical education or multi professional education.
  • DipEd Postgraduate teaching qualification or equivalent.

Research and Audit
Essential

  • Ability to critically appraise published research.
  • Experience of carrying out audit/quality improvement projects.

Desirable

  • Experience of involvement in a research project and publication
  • Interest in research.

Aptitude and Personal qualities
Essential

  • Positive attitude to multidisciplinary working and leadership.
  • Ability to deal effectively with pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively.

  • Able to fulfil the travel requirements of the post.
