The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. The institute, headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines, has offices in 17 rice-growing countries in Asia and Africa, and over 1,000 staff.

Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.

Job Purpose

The consultant will provide counseling services to IRRI’s workforce, thus improving the well-being of staff and their qualified dependents.

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

Roles and Responsibilities

Counseling and Psychological Services:

  • Hold once a week one-on-one counseling sessions with IRRI employees and their declared qualified dependents
  • Provide support and guidance to employees experiencing personal or professional challenges. This may include offering crisis intervention services, and recommending strategies and programs to the HROD and HSSE for supporting affected employees

Diagnostic Assessments:

  • Conduct psychological assessments and diagnostic evaluations to understand employees’ mental health conditions
  • Utilize various diagnostic techniques to identify issues and develop appropriate treatment or intervention plans

Case Management:

  • Refer employees to external mental health professionals and services when necessary
  • Manage and follow up on individual cases, ensuring that employees receive the necessary support and resources
  • Maintain confidential records and documentation of all counseling and assessment activities

Workshops and Training:

  • In collaboration with IRRI’s Occupational Health Physician, and Human Resources, conduct workshops and participate in info sessions about mental health, stress management, and other related topics
  • Educate employees on coping strategies, resilience, and work-life balance

Communication and Reporting:

  • Maintain open communication with employees and management regarding wellbeing initiatives and outcomes
  • Prepare reports and presentations on the status of employee wellbeing and the impact of implemented programs

Qualifications

  • MS Psychology graduate in Psychology
  • Licensed Psychometrician or Psychologist
  • With at least 5 years of relevant experience (e.g., company psychologist, counselor, etc)
