We are looking for Consultant Acute Physician with passion and drive to further develop and deliver our Acute Medical services. The applicant must also be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Acute Medicine or General Internal Medicine with a specialist interest.The successful candidate will be highly motivated with a passion to improve the quality of patient care. They will have strong communication skills and be an excellent ‘Team Player’. They will value training and education.Main duties of the jobThe post holder will be expected to:Be actively involved in the leadership, management and decision making within the DepartmentBe readily available during the working week so that medical and nursing staff can communicate and consult freelyEnsure that management plans are clearly displayed in the notes of patients with complex needsLiaise closely with the Divisional and Service Managers, and the Associate Medical Director, to ensure that waiting list targets are achieved. Share with Consultant colleagues the responsibility for providing clinical services for the local populationFoster relationships between staff within the each organisation, and also with the local Clinical Commissioning GroupsWork flexibly to achieve high quality carEnsure the policies for communication with General Practitioners, Trust staff and patients are followedEnsure that optimal use is made of all resources allocated to the postCover Consultant colleagues during periods of leaveAbout usMid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a full range of hospital and community services for people across East Cheshire (population 399K) and West Cheshire and Chester (population 357K). We believe, and it is the cornerstone of our five-year Trust Strategy, there is the opportunity to progress innovative, responsive and effective care in the best setting for the patient, be it in the hospital or out in the community.At Mid Cheshire, our mission is to inspire hope and provide unparalleled care for the people and communities of Cheshire, helping them to enjoy life to the fullest.Job descriptionJob responsibilitiesThe post is offered at 10 PA but under the terms of the 2003 Consultant Contract, candidates who wish to conduct private practice would be required to offer an additional programmed activity.A typical timetable will include DCC sessions on AMU, SDEC and virtual ward.We are open to discussion in relation to a flexible timetable to work slightly longer days to support a non-working day. An annualised job plan is also a possible option to further support flexible working.The typical timetable below is just an outline based on 10PAs. Any alternative work pattern would still support the same DCC:SPA splitPerson SpecificationQualificationsEssential

  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council and a Licence to Practise
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR or European Community Rights
  • MBBS or equivalent

Desirable

  • Additional higher degrees relevant to this post
  • Other postgraduate qualification e.g. MD, PhD
  • Qualified educational supervisor

ExperienceEssential

  • Extensive experience in Acute / General Internal Medicine

Desirable

  • Other specialties will be considered but especially desirable would be Respiratory Medicine, Care of the Elderly/Frailty, Diabetes or Rheumatology

  • Relevant experience in clinical audit
  • Relevant experience in research and evidence of publications
  • Ability to develop evidence based practice

  • Research leading to MD or PhD

Teaching and EducationEssential

  • Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Clinical Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC
  • Experience and interest in teaching both junior medical and non-medical staff
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development and lifelong learning
  • Commitment to teaching
  • Membership of Society of Acute Medicine

Desirable

  • Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Educational Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC
  • Recognised teaching skills course Special interest in role development and staff training
  • Membership of relevant medical associations/learned societies

OtherEssential

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff at all levels of the organisation
  • Full driving licence
  • Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice)
