Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon with special interest in Shoulder Surgery 40hrs per week/10PA plus on call.An exciting opportunity has opened for a Consultant T& O Surgeon with an interest in Shoulder surgery. This is a unique opportunity to work with the Upper Limb Unit.Main duties of the jobThe post holder will be required to be on the Trauma and Orthopaedic on call rota at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan, and to provide elective services at Wrightington Hospital.About usWrightington Hospital’s status as a Centre of Excellence in the treatment of musculo-skeletal disease has its origins in the seminal work of Professor Sir John Charnley, who pioneered hip replacement surgery involving the techniques of low-friction arthroplasty and also innovative advances to counter post-operative infection. Essential

  • Can demonstrate ability to lead and manage people
  • Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving
  • Able to maximise opportunities due to change
  • Proven organisational skills Experience and interest in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Basic skills in clinical audit Appreciation of benefits of clinical audit in improving clinical practice and the development of clinical guidelines

Desirable

  • Post graduate Management, Leadership or Education qualification
  • Managing junior staff
  • Computer skills

Special Interest Experience
Essential

  • Equivalent two years within orthopaedics dealing with orthopaedic upper limb surgery
  • Completion of a minimum of a total of 12 month fellowship post in upper limb surgery

Desirable

  • Experience in dealing with hand and wrist problems

Qualifications
Essential

  • Basic medical degree
  • Full registration with GMC and license to practice
  • Permission to work in the UK
  • FRCS Trauma & Ortho
  • On the GMC specialist register or within six months of being admitted to the register if currently in a training programme within the UK, i.e. within six months of expected CCT date at the date of AAC

Desirable

  • Specialist qualifications (Diploma/MSc/MD/PhD) related to subspecialist service

Experience within Specialty
Essential

  • Wide and significant experience in Orthopeadics
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining a UK CCT in Orthopaedic
  • Valid ATLS certificate

Desirable

  • Experience in dealing with upper limb trauma

Research/Publications
Essential

  • Ability to demonstrate an appreciation and understanding of research methodology
  • Evidence of involvement in research and/or publications

Desirable

  • Academic work related to nerve injuries and upper limb trauma

Personal Attributes
Essential

  • Demonstrates understanding of the current UK health care system and the need to develop the service in line with Government policy
