We are looking to appoint a Whole time Consultant Vascular Surgeon to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Northern General Hospital.We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered.Main duties of the jobThe appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of outpatient clinics, inpatient and day case operating lists, and attendance at MDTs and ward rounds.The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the national Consultant Contract.Opportunities are available for a successful candidate with appropriate training and experience to help develop the endovascular service from vascular surgery perspective in partnership with existing vascular surgeons, and in collaboration with the Vascular Radiologists.Please refer to the Job Description for further information regarding the post.About usLocated on rolling hills and dissected by river valleys, Sheffield is one if the greenest and most wooded cities in Europe. Qualifications
Essential

• Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
• Appropriate higher surgical qualification in Vascular Surgery (eg FRCS, FEBVS)
• If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.

Desirable

• MD or PhD or equivalent

Clinical experience
Essential

• Clinical training and experience in vascular surgery equivalent to that required for UK CCST
• Ability to work as an independent practitioner in the specialty covered by the post.

Research
Essential

• Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate

Desirable

• Publications in Peer reviewed journals.
• Ideas for future research whilst in post

Teaching and training
Essential

• Experience of teaching medical students and junior doctors

CPD
Essential

• Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months

Desirable

• Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio

Management and Administration
Essential

• Evidence of ability to work with management and previous experience of management groups.

Clinical governance and audit
Essential

• Experience in performing clinical audit

Desirable

• Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project

Personal attributes
Essential

• Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values
• Good written communication skills
