Action Against Hunger is recruiting a Leadership Gifts Content Officer (Officer)who will play a key role in the development, creation, and dissemination of compelling fundraising content to support Action Against Hunger’s Major Gift, Corporate, and Foundation donor relationships. This individual will act as a content expert, collaborating with teams across the organization to create impactful materials that drive donor engagement, support fundraising campaigns, and communicate the urgent needs of our global programs to an audience of donors giving gifts of $10,000 or higher.

The Officer will be responsible for producing a variety of written materials, including but not limited to program updates, appeals, and evergreen informational collateral. They will also be a key liaison with field teams, technical experts, and other internal stakeholders to ensure content is timely, accurate, and aligned with fundraising priorities.

The Officer will report directly to the Director of Development.

Purpose: The Officer plays a pivotal role, with responsibility for creating and managing persuasive fundraising content that aligns with our mission to end global hunger. The Officer will develop compelling stories and materials that connect donors with urgent humanitarian needs, playing a central role in our efforts to mobilize resources for our global programs.

Engagement: The Officer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including field units, technical experts, and marketing and communications, acting as a key liaison to ensure fundraising officers are equipped with collateral to meet donor needs. Regular communication with global team members will develop you into a content expert, while close work with senior leadership will keep organizational messaging cohesive.

Delivery: The Officer will lead content creation for the team, from appeals and donor updates to tailored content for events and campaigns, keeping an ultra-high-net-worth audience in mind. Expertise in writing and editing, combined with strong organizational skills, will help shape impactful donor communications and produce a range of materials to support our fundraising strategy across the Major Donor, Corporate, and Foundation teams. This role will also involve managing SharePoint content, ensuring easy access, and organization across teams.

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation & Management

  • Produce high-quality written content for a variety of fundraising materials, including major donor annual and mid-year appeals, program reviews, donor updates (digital and print), emergency appeals, and gala/event collateral.
  • Write, on behalf of the CEO and senior leadership, communications that reflect organizational priorities and leadership messaging.
  • Develop content tailored to different audiences, including individuals, corporate donors, and institutional supporters.
  • Produce country program overviews and summaries of our technical units, updated annually.

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Lead monthly or bi-monthly calls to review funding needs with country teams, building expertise in each country’s specific needs and challenges.
  • Facilitate regular calls with the technical team to stay informed on funding needs and programmatic developments.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to field teams, consolidating information from multiple points of contact to streamline communication and reduce complexity.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Design teams to produce cohesive and visually appealing content and align with campaign strategies.
  • Help manage and organize fundraising content on SharePoint to ensure easy access and efficient collaboration across the team.

Content Strategy & Editing

  • Edit and proofread materials for clarity, accuracy, and style, ensuring consistency across all communications.
  • Work with colleagues across the organization to gather insights, review drafts, and incorporate feedback.
  • Provide guidance and feedback on content produced by other officers and team members.

Special Projects

  • Produce and manage emergency fundraising appeals in response to urgent crises.
  • Create tailored content for high-profile fundraising events, such as galas, with distinct materials for different high-value donor segments.
  • Help curate and produce multimedia content, including video or social media assets (optional, but a plus).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Communications, International Development, Marketing) is a plus.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in a communications, fundraising, marketing, or writing-focused role, preferably within the humanitarian or nonprofit sector.
  • Fluency in English is required. Additional language skills preferred (French and/or Spanish are a plus).
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
  • Strong graphic design skills, including the ability to create mockups and visually impactful content (experience with tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar).
  • Experience with digital platforms and tools for content management (e.g., SharePoint, Box).
  • Knowledge of key humanitarian issues, and a passion for communicating the impact of humanitarian work.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience writing for fundraising campaigns, appeals, and donor communications preferred.
  • International or field experience in humanitarian work or nonprofit fundraising is a strong advantage.
  • Video production and social media skills are a plus.
  • Friendly, collaborative, and approachable with the ability to work effectively across teams and departments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to engage with senior leadership, field teams, and external partners.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment, demonstrating flexibility and resourcefulness.

NOTES

i) Gross salary range: $75,000-$80,000

ii) Applicants must be authorized to work in the US (if not a US citizen).

iii) This role is based in New York and currently has a hybrid work schedule that requires 2 days/wk in-office presence.
