The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an intergovernmental organisation committed to advancing security of energy supply, economic growth and environmental sustainability through energy policy co-operation. The IEA operates as an autonomous body within the framework of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Both the IEA and the OECD seek opportunities to work with an increasing number of non-members of growing importance to the world economy (countries beyond IEA). The Agency aims to foster the contribution of the energy sector to economic development and environmental sustainability across the globe.

The Clean Energy Transitions Programme (CETP) has grown to be the IEA’s largest (at EUR 20 million a year) and, arguably, most important programme. The CETP has leveraged IEA Members’ clean energy commitment and the extensive expertise of the IEA to support and accelerate global clean energy transitions, particularly in major emerging economies. The CETP provides cutting-edge technical and policy support to governments whose energy policies will significantly impact the speed of, and prospects for, a global transition towards a more sustainable and inclusive energy system – notably Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, and South Africa, and at regional level in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. Some recent successes have included supporting the analysis underpinning Indonesia’s USD 20 billion Just Energy Transitions Partnership (JETP), China’s 14th five-year plan for renewable energy development, training thousands of professionals, plus enabling engagement with the highest levels of government to provide the political will for the needed energy transitions.

 As one part of CETP, the IEA provides a breadth of analysis and policy advice to its member and Association countries across multilateral fora, notably the G7 and G20 with a range of presentations, reports and outcome documents for official, Ministerial and Leader-level meetings. The IEA’s is increasingly called upon to support progress on global issues like energy security, clean energy transition, energy finance/investment and climate change. Effective IEA planning and coordination with the Presidency and across the IEA teams to support these multilateral fora is increasingly important for the Secretariat. 

The IEA is seeking to recruit a highly motivated CETP Coordinator to support the management, co-ordination, reporting, and administrative tasks for the CETP, and notably the IEA’s enagement with multilateral foras such as the G7 and G20, among others. The successful candidate will report to the CETP Manager and be part of a team of enthusiastic professionals in the Strategic Initiatives Office (SIO), which reports directly to the Executive Office to provide strategic leadership for the IEA and leads on a number of cross-cutting areas for the Agency (including the CETP, G7 and G20). The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the substantive teams across the IEA, including colleagues from IEA Corporate Services. 

Main Responsibilities

Meetings, Coordination and Missions

  • Support the IEA’s participation and engagement with the G7 and G20 and relevant technical working groups.
  • Lead on the logistical preparation for missions for officials and experts, including travel and hotel arrangements, visa applications, compilation of briefing files, processing of expense claims, securing the necessary IEA approvals and following all relevant OECD/IEA internal procedures.  
  • Support the IEA’s efforts to reach out to relevant G7 and G20 President countries, including the scheduling of relevant meetings, inputting to the development of agenda’s and informing colleagues in a timely manner of latest developments.

Administrative Assistance and Collaboration

  • Working under the guidance of the CETP Officer – Communication and Reporting, support the tracking and reporting of CETP activities, including collection of necessary evidence and outputs to develop donor reports that SIO are the lead team to deliver.
  • Support drafting of relevant donor reports.
  • Provide a range of administrative support to the CETP, notably to support multilateral foram and cross-Agency missions and events.
  • Lead on processing of relevant expenditures in the IEA / OECD systems.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Academic Background:

  • Post-secondary level of education, preferably at university level in a relevant discipline or equivalent.

Professional Background

  • At least two to five years professional experience in similar administrative roles
  • Broad understanding of the energy sector and climate related issues would be a plus
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PPT…) including Microsoft SharePoint. 
  • Strong proficiency with software and tools for video conferencing and event management, such as Zoom, Teams, Inkwink, Webex and/or Skype. 
  • Working knowledge of tools for project management and calendar management, such as Trello, Slack and/or Doodle.  
  • Ability to quickly learn the standard range of software packages used in the Organisation e.g., eOSG, eCouncil, eShare, Clearspace, SharePoint, Vignette, SAP Missions, Event Management System (EMS), Conference Reservation, Management System, O.N.E. Author, SRP and Prism.  


  • An excellent written and oral command of English
  • Strong written and oral command of French would be desirable, but not a requirement.

Contract Duration

  • A two-year fixed term appointment, with the possibility of renewal.

Selection process

  • Long-listed candidates may be invited to an online self-recorded video interview around the end of June and to panel interviews planned for mid-July.
  • Please note that our Rules and Regulations stipulate that the mandatory retirement age is 65.
