These provide opportunities to grow your career through a dedicated technical path while being rewarded for your unique skills.Reporting to the Senior Safety Coordinator and working in an exciting and unique environment within the Iron Ore Company of Canada, your duties will include:

  • Provide advice and support to the area departments to ensure that operating and maintenance activities undertaken are designed, planned and carried out in accordance with Rio Tinto’s Safety Systems and comply with Provincial and Federal regulations
  • Support and promote adherence to the current safety and support the engineering team on contractors’ engagement
  • Assist with safety investigations, coach leaders and advisors on how to prepare reports and recommendations, implement corrective and preventative actions and share learnings with both sites
  • Monitor safety performance indicators to drive change in the workplace
  • Understand, promote and adhere to the HSEQ Management System, Rio Tinto safety performance standards and IOC’s supporting procedures
  • Understand and ensure compliance with relevant statutory and legislative provisions and the Rio Tinto Safety Standards
  • Demonstrate an excellent understanding of risk assessment process, including hazard identification and implementation of controls
  • Coach area leaders in a balanced approach to risk management and assist in the development and of safety policies, procedures and related documentation
  • Delivering the annual H&S plan and supporting operational and technical leaders improving safety maturity
  • Influence and coach leaders and frontline workers (including contract partners) on fundamental H&S tools and processes (critical risk management, hazard identification and control, shift-start meetings, leadership in the field
  • Assurance activities to determine control effectiveness and improvement actions
  • Developing and providing relevant safety information to operational and technical leaders (safety statistics, incident information, risk analysis, educational material)
  • Coordination of site-based initiatives that promote health and wellbeing

What you’ll bring

  • Technical Diploma in Health & Safety
  • 5 to 7 years’ experience in a similar industrial setting, mining, processing, manufacturing or related setting
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders and drive outcomes
  • Effective interpersonal and communications skills
  • Strong computer skills including using web-based systems and Microsoft Office Suite

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)
