Job Description:Grade UE07: £40,247 to £47,874 per annumThe Roslin Institute & Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies / CMVMFull time: 35 hours per weekFixed term: until 31 March, 2028 (36 months)We are looking for a brilliant core scientist with Post-Doctoral Research experience for the Digital One Health laboratory (DOHL) at The Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh with Dr Adrian Muwonge.The Opportunity:The position offers the successful candidate an opportunity to apply bacterial genomic and metagenomic expertise to large datasets spanning One Health domains, with the goal of unravelling AMR transmission pathways. The DOHL group develops analytical, and bioinformatics tools to investigate the microbiome’s role in AMR transfer across humans, animals, and their environments.The team currently includes up to five PhD students at various stages of their programs, focusing on different aspects of AMR transmission in African settings. The successful candidate will lead the group’s bioinformatic analytics and contribute to mentoring PhD students and early-career postdoctoral researchers as part of their career growth . Collaboration is a key aspect of the role, involving working with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, including Molecular epidemiologists, clinicians, microbiologists, and bioinformaticians at the Roslin Institute and our international networks.Informal enquiries: .Your skills and attributes for success:The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in microbial genomics or a related area, with expertise in amplicon and shotgun metagenomics, extensive command-line bioinformatics experience, and strong data science skills, particularly in bacterial population genetics. A proven ability to manage, curate, and analyse large metagenomic datasets is essential. Experience coordinating international scientific collaborations is highly desirable. The Roslin Institute is a world-class centre for biomedical research, focusing on infectious diseases relevant to both animal and human health. The Institute provides access to state-of-the-art research facilities, including advanced imaging, proteomics, and high-throughput sequencing platforms.
