As Country Director in Sudan, you will be responsible for managing the impact oriented WHH country programme in accordance with the overall WHH strategy, mandate and quality standards. You will be responsible for a sound financial management of allocated funds as well as for the acquisition of additional funding. This will require a professional and experienced approach towards structures and processes, strategic programming, security management and human resources management.

Your responsibilities

  • Carry the overall responsibility for the development and implementation of the Sudan country programme;
  • Strengthen the humanitarian and development profile of WHH in the country towards relevant stakeholders with the goal of making communities and households more resilient;
  • Further develop the Sudan country programme and continue to integrate new methods and approaches;
  • Diversify the funding base of the country programme, including new, innovative institutional and private donors willing to support with longer-term funding;
  • Forge and maintain strong relationships with other international and national organizations and continue to expand outreach through relevant meetings, workshops, and conferences;
  • Continue to identify strategically relevant partners (CSO, research, local government, international NGOs, etc.) to support the achievment of the programme objectives;
  • Ensure proper planning of financial and material resources as well as regular reporting to the Regional Directorate at WHH Head Office and the Co-financiers;
  • Warrant the required flow of information and public transparency of the project work in the country;
  • Promote a culture of learning and openness to identify and analyze weaknesses in project/programme implementation and take the necessary steps to overcome them;
  • Analyze the adequacy of WHH Sudan’s programme capacity and structure in relation to the ever-changing context and WHH’s strategic objectives, and take steps to adapt as necessary;
  • Lead and manage a diverse team in a complex and challenging context, paying particular attention to (national) staff development.

Your profile

  • A university or college degree in a relevant field such as Agricultural sciences, Humanitarian Aid, Management, Engineering, Rural development, or a comparable level of qualification;
  • At least 10 years of project management experience in carrying out co-financed projects of international (aid) agencies, preferably in the region;
  • Experience in managing teams and programs in conflict/complex working environments;
  • UN, ECHO, EU donor experiene would be an asset;
  • Excellent HR Management skills and ability to work in a multinational team;
  • Coordination and organisational skills – even under a high workload;
  • Excellent communication skills and cross-cultural management competence;
  • Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for working in Welthungerhilfe’s programme countries;
  • Excellent spoken and written English; German and/or Arabic language skills would be an asset.
