Term: Initial 1-year contract as Managing Director, Followed by a 2-year term as Country Director, Option to extend for an additional 2 or 3 years based on performance and organizational needs

Job Summary:
The Country Director of Good Neighbors Myanmar is responsible for overseeing the organization’s strategic direction, program development, and operational management in Myanmar. The role involves leading the team to implement development programs, ensuring organizational stability amid challenging circumstances, and cultivating partnerships to secure funding opportunities.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in managing operations in fragile or conflict-affected countries, with a preference for candidates who have prior experience working in Myanmar or similar contexts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Leadership and Management
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and monitoring of community development projects, including sponsorship and regional development programs.
- Ensure effective contingency planning and risk management in response to the expanding civil conflict.
- Strategic Development and Partnerships
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with international organizations, donors, and government agencies.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to secure funding, including engaging in international organizations like the UN agriculture project.
- Operational Oversight
- Manage and support local teams to ensure stability and continuity of operations under current circumstances.
- Establish and implement policies to safeguard staff and resources during emergencies.
- Representation and Advocacy
- Represent Good Neighbors Myanmar in local and international forums to advocate for the organization’s mission and programs.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with the international community, particularly in the areas of alternative agriculture and sustainable development.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience in program management and operations in fragile or conflict-affected contexts.
- Prior experience in Myanmar or similar countries is highly preferred.
- Proven track record in securing large-scale funding and managing donor relationships, especially with international organizations like the UN.
- Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong understanding of development work in fragile states, including contingency planning and risk management.
- Familiarity with alternative agriculture and community-based development initiatives.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills to liaise with diverse stakeholders.
- Personal Attributes:
- Adaptability and resilience to lead in a non-family duty station.
- Strong leadership and decision-making capabilities in high-pressure situations.
