To strengthen the MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, Learning) processes and systems in Myanmar, Malteser International is looking for a Country MEAL Coordinator, based in Myanmar with frequent travel in the region.

The Country MEAL Coordinator (CMC) reporting to the Country Program Coordinator (CPC), will be responsible for strengthening the MEAL systems and processes across MI’s portfolio in Myanmar. This includes ensuring the comprehensive integration of MEAL frameworks in all program locations and supporting local partners in developing and enhancing their own MEAL capacities, ensuring alignment with donor requirements and MI’s standards. This role is crucial in enhancing the efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability of interventions while ensuring that evaluation processes—both within Malteser International and among partners—lead to evidence-based adjustments and improvements across programs.

Your responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership for the development and implementation of a harmonized MEAL framework across the MI portfolio in Myanmar, including various program locations, projects and partners, while ensuring staff training and induction on the MEAL system
  • Support countrywide project teams and partners in setting up, understanding, and applying MEAL plans, data collection, analysis, and reporting procedures
  • Manage MEAL-related consultancies, including evaluations, and ensure proper storage and use of consultancy outputs
  • Foster collaboration with monitoring and evaluation counterparts in local and international NGOs, Malteser International country programs, and HQ team in Germany
  • Lead efforts in documenting, analysing, and sharing lessons learned and good practices for project improvement, donor reporting, and advocacy
  • Oversee the development of community feedback and response mechanisms, ensuring their functionality and alignment with organizational standards
  • Ensure gender, age, and disability inclusion across all MEAL-related activities and project proposals, while supporting continuous learning through workshops and staff training

Your profile:

  • University degree relevant to the humanitarian and development sector, with at least 8 years of experience, including 5 years of designing and implementing MEAL frameworks
  • Strong expertise in multi-sectoral programs, with a deep understanding of program quality and practical challenges faced by program managers
  • Proficient in MS-Word, Excel, KOBO Toolbox, PowerBI, database management, statistical packages (SPSS), and experience with both quantitative and qualitative methodologies
  • Advanced quantitative or mixed methods research skills, including the ability to review and critically assess data and literature
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, fostering a collaborative and team-oriented environment, especially in multi-cultural settings
  • Adaptable and able to work independently under basic conditions, handling high workloads, stress, and remote work when necessary
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, with excellent communication skills, including active listening, clear reporting, and positive communication

  • Duty Station: Myanmar. Due to visa restrictions frequent travel outside the country is considered with
    potential to be based in the region e.g. Thailand in addition to Myanmar
  • Duration of contract: 2 years
  • Salary according to qualification and experience, insurance package
