COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE

Area 4 is based in Northern Colorado, covering northern portions of Weld and Larimer Counties for Colorado Parks and Wildlife. It is bounded on the north by the Wyoming State line, the west by the Continental Divide, and incorporates urban areas, wilderness/mountainous areas and rural, agricultural land in the east. Area 4 is responsible for wildlife management, wildlife law enforcement, customer service related to wildlife, and resource protection within the area. Area 4 has an Area Wildlife Manager, two Assistant Area Wildlife Managers (Supervisor), 7 district wildlife managers, 4 wildlife property technicians, Program Assistant II (supervisor), and 3 administrative assistants. The purpose of the Area 4 customer service team is to provide high quality customer service through the sale of licenses and passes; to answer calls about wildlife problems and advise the public about techniques to resolve or prevent such conflicts; and to serve as the customer interface to field officers by handling and dispatching public calls about wildlife violations, injured wildlife, and wildlife-people conflicts.

Description of Job

The primary purpose of this position is to provide customer service to CPW customers – walk in, call in, and by email; including sales of wildlife and state park products, maintenance of customer records, providing information through direct communication and with brochures, bulletin boards, and other information products. Position handles payment, including license and pass fees, payment of citations, fees for bird release permits and runs cash register. The position answers phones and talks with customers about hunting, fishing, state parks, license and permit products, wildlife and wildlife regulations, prevention of conflict with and living with wildlife and associated report forms. The position also provides internal customer service through administrative duties such as dispatching for officers, management of the office copy and fax machines, maintenance of animal seals log and stocking of supplies, front desk dispatch and contact with volunteers and interns, pickup/delivery and distribution of mail, orders office supplies kept in stock, ensures office machines are operational and serves as contact w/repair vendor, inputs information into various databases, and other administrative duties that may arise

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Customer Service

Sell products and provide information to customers – walk in, call in, and by email; including sales of wildlife products (hunting and fishing licenses, refund and duplicate licenses and hunter education cards), parks products (parks passes, OHV permits, snowmobile and boat registrations); and maintenance of customer records in IPAWS (name and address changes, hunter education verification, and other documentation as needed), maintains and updates information bulletin boards, seasonal handouts/reports/forms, and informational packets, answering questions about wildlife or parks; issue road kill permits; issue night hunting permits; and perform mandatory animal checks, assist with onsite CWD sample collections, and wildlife euthanization. Position accepts payment, including license, stamp, permit, and pass fees, citations, and runs cash register. The position answers phones and talks with customers about hunting, fishing, state parks, license and permit products, wildlife and wildlife regulations, prevention of conflict with and living with wildlife and associated report forms.

Provide Internal Customer Service and Administrative Assistance

Provides internal customer service such as dispatching of calls requiring responses to field officers, serving as front desk dispatch and contact person for volunteers with Wildlife Transport Team and Hunter Education Instructors; administrative duties such as management of the regional office copy, fax and IPAWS machines including supply stocking and management of maintenance, repairs, and downloads; maintenance of animal seals log and stocking of required supplies for mandatory animal checks; pickup/delivery and distribution of mail; orders, monitors and ensures standard office supplies, brochures, and merchandise are kept in stock; scheduling for various meetings/classes; inputs information into various databases for supervisor review; other administrative duties that may arise.

Will be the primary person to stock Hunter Education Materials and distribute to Hunter Education Instructors as necessary. Ensures that materials are in-stock, up to date, and readily available to instructors. Coordinates with the Hunter Education Section to ensure that the Service Center has what is required for Hunter Education courses to be conducted in the area. Checks out rifles and demonstration rifle sets to Hunter Education instructors and ensures that such materials are maintained and returned. Logs and tracks the distribution of ammunition and hunter safety cards to instructors. Coordinates with Hunter Education instructors and Hunter Education Section to ensure that all upcoming course information is listed on the website, on the phone recording and on paper to provide the public with the most current information regarding upcoming courses.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience in administration or customer service in an office environment in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.

Substitutions

  • Appropriate education in accounting, business, wildlife management, biology, agriculture, or related field of study will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current or former Colorado Parks & Wildlife work or volunteer experience is considered.

  • Current or former State experience relevant to this position.

  • Excellent customer service skills, problem-solving abilities, and critical thinking.

  • Demonstrates initiative and self-motivation.

  • Keen attention to detail.

  • Exceptional organizational, written communication, and public speaking skills.

  • Ability to work well independently as well as in/with a team.

  • Proficiency in the use of Google email, Google Docs, Zoom/Google Meet, and the Colorado Operations Resource Engine (CORE). Knowledgeable in Word, Excel, and Adobe programs.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license if operating a State vehicle.

  • Driving and Criminal background checks required

  • May handle wildlife that potentially has a disease

  • Will handle firearms and ammunition while checking out Hunter ED rifles and ammo.

  • Occasional travel to other CPW locations for training or Customer Service
