The School of Geography and the Environment seeks an exceptional candidate for the role of Departmental Lecturer in Human Geography. This is a departmental lectureship with a primary focus on teaching and preference will be given to candidates whose focus is in environmental geography, particularly environmental social science, political ecology, environmental governance and the interactions between science and policy.The responsibilities of the role are to:

  • Deliver teaching, marking and supervision for the undergraduate and MSc programmes.
  • Contribute to university examining.
  • Contribute to fieldtrips.

The successful candidate will have a research publication record, commensurate with their career stage, within the field of environmental geography. As a secondary priority to teaching, the post holder will conduct independent research.Candidates wishing to discuss the post informally may contact the Chair of the recruitment panel, Professor Jamie Lorimer ( ). All enquiries will be treated in strict confidence; they will not form part of the selection decision.The successful candidate should have or be close to completing a relevant PhD/DPhil in environmental geography, especially in environmental social science or a closely related field. Ability or potential to be an effective teacher of undergraduate and especially MSc students of high ability, to lecture at an appropriate level in an interesting and engaging manner, and to carry out student assessment, examination and course design. You will have sufficient depth and breadth of knowledge in the subject to develop new teaching materials. Experience of qualitative and/or quantitative research and analytical techniques. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills to support undergraduates and graduate students.
