The Team

The University’s new research institute, the Institute for Health and Care Improvement (IHCI), seeks to appoint a Deputy Director.

The IHCI has a remit of advancing research to improve the health and care of the communities we serve. Its role is to enable and accelerate research, support new and productive collaborations, and improve the quality and the impact of our work. Launched in 2023, the Institute is in its infancy. Its operational group will initially comprise of several staff, including academics, research support staff, and research fellows. It will have an independent steering group, a wider community from the University’s Schools, research groups and centres, a community of postgraduate researchers, and multiple external partners.

The Role

The Deputy Director will be a key member of the IHCI’s operational group, reporting directly to the Director. The role will involve providing strategic leadership across the Institute’s portfolio of activities, with specific accountability for providing sector insight, the development and maintenance of close links with external organisations and stakeholders, and the coordination and delivery of key change programmes and projects.

Required Skills and Expereience

The successful candidate will have extensive experience of working in a health or social care related organisation where an understanding of health policy and research and their development was required. They will also have extensive experience in strategy development and leadership within a complex organisation. They will be a strategic thinker with excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to balance a large and varied workload and to work independently.
