Job Description:Position DetailsAcademic ServicesLocation: University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham UKFull time starting salary is normally in the range £31,396 to £33,966 with potential progression once in post to £38,205Grade: 6Full Time, PermanentClosing date: 18th August 2024BackgroundThe Deputy Education Support Manager (AoL), role plays a pivotal role in leading and supporting Assurance of Learning processes within Birmingham Business School. The role will work directly with key stakeholders, including the School Director of Education, Head of Operations (Education Support), Academic Lead for Quality Assurance and the Academic Lead for College Quality Assurance and Approvals Committee.Main duties

  • Develop and maintain systematic processes and data collection, assessment plans that collectively demonstrate whether learners achieve learning outcomes for the school’s programmes
  • Ensuring the delivery of relevant School and University quality processes (e.g. external examiners, PET, quality assurance processes such as ARE and Periodic Review, and accreditations) to a very high standard including the commissioning and provision of all required data.
  • Manage SPARC meetings, including development and maintenance of processes to manage the paperwork and decisions, generating actions for relevant stakeholders and organise all paperwork required for College approval via the dedicated inbox
  • Leading and providing analysis and review cycle of Business for QA to drive quality improvements
  • Lead the Module and Programme Review process throughout the academic year
  • Support the School Director of Education in coordinating the arrangements for the Annual School Review i to include collation and preparation of all relevant materials, draft reports, monitoring and reporting on progress against action plans.
  • Inform leadership about best practices related to the work associated with academic innovation and academic assurance.
  • Maintain professional knowledge on AoL, attending assessment seminars, workshops, and conferences where appropriate.
  • Lead on the organisation and monitoring of PET (Peer Evaluation of Teaching), feeding back to the School Quality Assurance Lead and Deputy Head of Education
  • Managing relevant Canvas and Intranet pages
  • Actively support synergy in QA and AoL, supporting processes, including accreditation, ensuring consistency
  • Managing CMI submissions and account

Planning and organising:

  • Prioritise own workload and assist in planning for future work so that resources are available to meet specific School objectives.
  • Plan and allocate work over short to medium term (daily/monthly) with an awareness of longer-term issues (semester/annual)
  • Use initiative and discretion, based on knowledge and experience to determine priorities, and resolve conflicts to meet targets and deadlines.
  • Plan and organise activities/events with an appreciation of longer-term issues, ensuring plans complement the broader operational aims within the school and specific accreditation timelines.
  • Carry out any other duties which are appropriate to the post as may be reasonably requested by senior management.

Person specificationDegree or significant relevant experience:

  • Substantial experience of working within quality assurance frameworks, including experience of external professional or accrediting bodies and internal and external regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Demonstrable professional knowledge within quality assurance and enhancement systems and frameworks, enabling the provision of expert advice and guidance to internal and external customers, including senior managers.
  • Proven ability to set up and develop processes and procedures and make improvements and enhancements as appropriate.
  • Proven ability to proactively research, procure, produce and communicate conceptually detailed and complex management information effectively and professionally with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable evidence of ability to explore customers’ needs and adapt services accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered.
  • Proven ability to develop internal and external networks in order to contribute to long term developments and goals.
  • Demonstrable evidence of ability to solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity; identifying, proposing and implementing both practical and innovative solutions.
  • Evidence of ability to successfully manage minor and major projects, including related budgets and resources, successfully and to defined deadlines.
