Job summaryThe Radiology Physics Department support a range of cutting edge imaging equipment across our hospitals within the Trust. We are looking for a highly experienced physicist in the field of Diagnostic Radiology to join our growing team as Deputy Head of Radiology Physics at University Hospitals Dorset. We also support MRI, Ultrasound and Lasers, so an interest in this area would be advantageous though not a requirement for the post. Anyone wishing to keep their skills and knowledge up to date in this field would be supported and encouraged to do so.The ideal candidate will be a HCPC registered clinical scientist and hold RPA2000 certification to act as an MPE and RPA in the diagnostic radiology, although applications from those holding only one certificate are encouraged as support for attainment of the other will be provided.Candidates who are not certified MPE or RPA but who are demonstrably close to being able to submit their portfolio for either may be considered for appointment to a lower band, initially.Base Location: Poole HospitalInterview Date: TBCMain duties of the jobo Provide day to day management / target setting of appropriate junior Medical Physics staff and Health Education England trainees (STPs and PTPs).o Contribute to the business planning process of the department.o Lead in the development of radiation protection and quality assurance of radiography.o To act as Lead MPE for research and ethics applicationso To supervise MPEs in their roles as modality leadso To assist lead RPA and act as deputy RPA when head of Radiology Physics is unavailableAbout usOur values define who we are as #TeamUHD.   • 1st or 2:1 honours degree in Physics or related subject and / or equivalent knowledge / experience.
  • Relevant accredited M.Sc. and successful completion of the STP training scheme in an appropriate specialism or equivalent Association of Clinical Scientists certification.
  • HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist (Medical Physics).
  • RPA2000 accreditation as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) and Radiation Protection Advisor.
  • PhD or equivalent highly specialised experience in related subject area.

Desirable

  • Registration as an MPE with the Health Research Agency’s Radiation Assurance (HRA) programme.

ExperienceEssential

  • Greater than 5 years’ post-registration experience working in appropriate specialisms within Medical Physics.
  • Detailed knowledge & experience of a specialism within radiology and detailed knowledge & experience of radiation protection across radiology.
  • Evidence of leadership and supervision of projects and the work of others

Desirable

  • Experience of providing mammography and CT Physics support.
  • Experience of using dose management software to compile DRLs and drive optimisation projects.
  • Experience of working with a document management system and / or within a quality management framework.
  • Professional involvement with special interest groups, national working parties or advisory bodies
  • Experience of quantitative analysis techniques.

  • Able to use specialised software to analyse complex data. Much of the complex imaging equipment used is software-based.
  • Able to present scientific papers at national and international conferences.
  • Able to motivate & train groups of other professional staff.

  • Detailed understanding of the risks arising from a range of imaging & treatment techniques.
