Development of sociolinguistic competence in children

About the Project

Variation in language use that is conditioned by sociolinguistic cues such as age, social class, gender, and context has been shown to be reflected in children’s production from an early age. Research questions within this project will examine, for example, when adult-like sociolinguistic variation appears, and the mechanisms and social factors that guide the development of socially conditioned variation.
