Position: Development Officer

Location: Remote, with occasional travel to Scottish Borders for meetings

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Contract: Part-time (0.6 FTE / 3 days per week)

Term: 1 year term, with six months probationary period

Salary: £30,000 pro rata

Closing Date: Friday 8th August 2025, 5pm

Bright Green Nature is a small but ambitious environmental charity rooted in the Scottish
Borders. We focus on restoring vulnerable ecosystems, empowering communities, and helping
people of all ages connect with nature.

Our work includes flagship programmes such as Wild Your Space and the
Young Rewilders Forum, engaging schools, groups, and individuals across the
region. We also manage the Deer Park, a species-rich calcareous grassland near
Selkirk that serves as our “Living Classroom.”

Role Summary

We are seeking a Development Officer to help strengthen and grow our
organisation. This dynamic new role is ideal for someone passionate about people, nature, and
impact. The postholder will support:

  • Fundraising and income generation
  • Financial and budgetary planning
  • Impact monitoring and reporting
  • Project development and management

You’ll work closely with our CEO and wider team to expand our reach, secure sustainable and
diverse sources of funding, and drive meaningful environmental change.

Key Objectives

  • Help to secure diverse and sustainable funding sources
  • Measure and help to communicate our impact to stakeholders
  • Prepare clear, accurate reports for Trustees and funders
  • Support key project implementation and coordination
  • Provide sound financial and budgetary support

Main Responsibilities

Fundraising & Income Generation

Working with the CEO and Fundraising Consultant, you will:

  • Identify, engage with and apply for funding opportunities (including corporate and
    philanthropic sources)
  • Develop relationships with funders and key stakeholders
  • Draft funding proposals and project budgets
  • Maintain a funding pipeline and reporting calendar
  • Build and manage a fundraising database

Project Development

  • Co-design projects with staff, communities, and partners
  • Support the conduct of needs assessments and feasibility studies
  • Draft project plans and budgets
  • Contribute to long-term strategic development

Impact Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Create systems for tracking outputs and outcomes
  • Coordinate data collection and evaluation
  • Produce timely impact reports for stakeholders
  • Embed evaluation in project delivery

Project Management

  • Support staff and volunteers in project delivery
  • Track milestones, budgets, and timelines
  • Liaise with partners and contractors
  • Ensure all safeguarding, H&S, and risk processes are followed

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven success in diverse fundraising, ideally in small charities
  • Strong financial and budgetary planning experience
  • Knowledge of the Scottish environmental sector
  • Experience in designing and developing complex projects
  • Familiarity with impact evaluation tools and systems
