Position description

The Digital Platforms Manager will report to the Director, Marketing & Communications, and work closely with the Public Engagement, Communications, and Creative Services (PECCS) team. This is a full-time position with a preference for candidates based in the San Francisco Bay Area, though remote candidates will be considered.

The Digital Platforms Manager plays an integral role in growing and cultivating the Skoll Foundation’s digital audiences. They own and execute the Foundation’s social media communications strategy to advance the Skoll Foundation’s thought leadership and brand awareness, and raise the visibility of grantees and partners advancing transformational social change.

The Manager drives the design, execution, measurement, and evaluation of social media platforms and digital content. They are responsible for content development and distribution; growth, engagement, and activation of target audiences; and monitoring of global news and trends via media tracking and social media listening.

The Digital Platforms Manager possesses deep expertise in leveraging social media and driving audience activation; is comfortable with metrics and analytics; and is curious about solutions to today’s urgent global challenges. The Manager is committed to building and engaging target audiences and using digital platforms to support social innovators across sectors working to create a more peaceful, prosperous, equitable, and inclusive world.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

In close collaboration with the Director, lead and deploy the Skoll Foundation’s social media strategy; grow and engage the Foundation’s digital audiences; leverage the Foundation’s voice and thought leadership; and work with colleagues to develop and distribute multimedia content for digital campaigns.

  • Manage the Foundation’s digital audience engagement across its social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) and website.
  • Develop, execute, analyze, and project-manage digital components of the Foundation’s communications campaigns, collaborating with staff, Awardees, grantees, partners, peer funders, and other stakeholders to create and deploy content that elevates their visibility and drives support for their work.
  • Develop and maintain a robust social media calendar and create and post compelling content that showcases major initiatives of the organization including the Skoll World Forum, as well as the impactful work of social innovators across sectors and the globe.
  • Develop and execute social media for executives’, board members’, and subject matter experts’ thought leadership.
  • Track, analyze, and report on meaningful social media metrics and qualitative outcomes to increase impact over time while sharing learnings for continuous experimentation and iteration.
  • Conduct social listening and media monitoring of the Foundation, its grants portfolio, philanthropy, breaking news, and trending topics. Curate daily listening/tracking reports to team and weekly reports to Foundation staff.
  • Cultivate relationships with counterparts at other foundations, social innovators, and other influencers to develop a network of cross-promotional partners.
  • Assess and leverage relevant social media trends and conversations to inform and iterate the Foundation’s digital strategy, including emerging trends in issues, technologies/tools, and best practices for engaging online audiences.
  • Oversee the Foundation’s paid ad strategy, including audience targeting, ideation, and execution, working closely with the team to develop high-performing creative collateral such as quote and infographics.
  • Work with colleagues to develop web and multimedia content to complement social media campaigns, and social media campaigns to leverage and promote web and multimedia content.
  • Support website content updates, email newsletter production, and internal communications/reporting.

Qualifications

While no one candidate will embody all the qualifications enumerated below, the ideal candidate will possess many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes, and experiences:

  • At least 3 years experience managing social media channels for brands with a sizable audience.
  • Demonstrated experience growing and cultivating audiences through organic and paid channels.
  • Strong skill translating complex issues into compelling creative.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead both strategy and day-to-day execution for digital channels.
  • Experience with data systems, distilling large data sets, and using data to inform strategy
  • Working knowledge of Canva, Meltwater, Google Analytics, YouTube Studio, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter/X, social scheduling tools such as Sprout Social or Buffer.
  • Strong knowledge of the social media ecosystem, current best practices, and user experience for social and web.
  • Experience cultivating relationships with diverse stakeholders over time to achieve goals.
  • Comfort working in ambiguous settings, building buy-ins to test and iterate new ideas.
  • Project management expertise with experience executing multiple concurrent projects on time.
  • Experience in philanthropy, agency, nonprofit, or other setting focused on amplifying the work of others highly desirable.
  • Available for international travel (~10%) and willingness to work in flexible workplace environments.

Salary Description

Offers are based on the candidate’s years of experience and the Foundation’s practice of upholding salary equity within the Foundation. The base salary range for this position is between $97,347 – $140,082 per year. The salary range will vary for candidates outside the Foundation’s primary office in Palo Alto, California.
