Throughout more than 145 years of dental education — the oldest, largest and most comprehensive training program in Canada — we have striven to graduate the highest quality of students while providing the public the highest standards of care.We are driven by our vision to improve health by advancing dentistry through inspired leadership, innovation, and excellence in education, research and practice.Your OpportunityWorking under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Director, Building Operations and Services has a broad set of responsibilities involving the planning for and management of physical facilities and related services that support a diverse array of teaching, clinic operations, research programs and users in the Dentistry community.The Director, Building Operations and Services plays a key role in supporting the faculty, staff, students, patients and guests of Dentistry by providing a safe, healthy and functional environment for the achievement of all elements of the academic vision.Key responsibilities include: assisting in prioritizing and developing long-term and short-term strategic and operational planning for the Faculty’s space and facilities; management of building operations, maintenance and services (shipping and receiving, key services, mailroom, courier, laundry services etc.) including liaising with the various University Central services (property management, utilities, caretaking, grounds, campus safety and other trades) to ensure the safe and healthy environment, identifying and resolving space and facilities related issues and problems, coordinating and overseeing work to be performed from planning to completion; participating in identifying and planning capital and other building projects, and implementing the projects; managing space inventory and space allocation; managing all service and work orders; assisting in developing and managing budgets for building operations and capital projects; management of building operations and service unit staff; and providing space and facilities advice and expertise to the various stakeholders in the Faculty.Qualifications:EDUCATION:
University degree in engineering or architecture, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Qualifications in facilities design and management (e.g.CFM with the IFMA or FMA (Facilities Management Administrator), BOMA) an asset.EXPERIENCE:Minimum of 5 years experience in a property management or “owners representative” role. Thorough understanding and extensive knowledge of building design, construction, engineering systems and operational practices. Demonstrated experience in managing operating and maintenance budgets, and performing financial analyses of alternatives. Demonstrated experience in Health and Safety, Fire Prevention, Emergency Planning, Emergency Response and Environmental Health and Safety issues. Experience within an academic setting, research and teaching laboratories an asset. Project Management Experience. Experience with strategic planning with an emphasis on capital projects.Experience working on healthcare and/or clinical projects an asset.SKILLS:Effective problem solving and multi-tasking skills. Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Sound judgment. Proven computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Ability to draw and interpret sketches, and review architectural and engineering drawings; AutoCAD is an asset. Familiar with formulating budgets and estimates and reviewing cost reports. Knowledge of building and service contracts, and contracting processes and practices.OTHER:Strong negotiating and mediating skills. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students and members of the community at large.This role is currently eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, pursuant to University policies and guidelines, including but not limited to the .Closing Date: 05/17/2024, 11:59PM ET
