As the Director, Corporate Credit Risk, you will be primarily concerned with assessing, monitoring and managing credit risk inherent to the bank’s Corporate Banking, Commercial Banking, Leveraged Finance and Asset Based Lending businesses (“The Business”), along with associated derivative exposures and other ancillary activities. This will include transactional approvals driven by new business deal flow, annual reviews, amendments as well as periodic reviews of existing portfolio exposure. You will form an integral part of the team adjudicating and managing credits within these portfolios. In addition, the group provides advice and counsel to its Line of Business partners in fulfillment of the Corporate and Commercial credit risk components of their strategic plans. You’ll work closely and collaboratively with our business partners to understand, measure and monitor risk and adhere to CIBC’s policies in order to maintain a risk profile that is consistent with a prudently run financial institution.At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.How you’ll succeedCollaboration and Relationship Building – Develop strong relationships and work collaboratively with The Business. Develop a high level of familiarity with various deal structures, knowledge of industry sectors, business lines covered, and provide insight and advice to internal partners and GCRM executives on relevant matters. Provide consultation and assistance as a subject matter expert to influence the development, implementation and management of policies and programs related to the sector(s) covered. Assist in maintaining a constructive partnership relationship with The Business in order to support them in achieving their strategic plans and participate in the assessment of new strategic initiatives as they arise. Effectively liaise with, and provide guidance to The Business on credit related matters and policy. Provide constructive advice and guidance to relationship managers on credit transactions, within CIBC’s credit policies and guidelines and CIBC’s risk appetite.Develop and Maintain a Broad Knowledge of Economic and Finance Issues – Monitor developments across economic and industry sectors, identifying major risk factors and investigate any adverse developments that may affect portfolio. Advise on actions to mitigate these risks where possible, and/or escalate where necessary. Present up the chain on portfolio risks where relevant.Exercise Sound Judgement in Adjudication and Portfolio Management – Demonstrate a keen understanding of current and developing regulatory issues, as well as CIBC credit policies, guidelines and procedures. Effectively utilize CIBC risk rating methodologies to ensure an objective and accurate assessment of risk in credit transactions. Carry out thorough analysis of credit applications from The Business, develop and present clear objective recommendations to senior management within the team, or at higher levels within the bank, to enable credit judgments and decisions to be made. Review and monitor credit risk in the existing portfolios and ensure that risk ratings are up to date and accurate and that such risks are properly identified and managed. Ensure early identification of developing risk issues are promptly communicated to management. Assist in instilling a strong credit culture through gaining a clear understanding of the risk appetite, culture and risk governance of CIBC and further ensure compliance with credit policy and regulatory requirements. Provide input into policy groups’ consideration of risk management trends and emerging requirements. Assist in risk reporting activities where required and contribute to general governance controls and monitoring. Special projects as required. Develop a clear knowledge of CIBC systems, policies, procedures and sectors of operation.Who you areYou can demonstrate experience. 5+ years of experience gained in a corporate banking, commercial banking and/or a risk management environment. Experience managing medium/large and/or complex Commercial and Corporate credit deals and experience lending across multiple industries, ideally with some exposure to asset-based lending, leveraged lending, corporate lending, and covering both investment grade and non-investment grade borrowers.You can demonstrate knowledge. Some familiarity with mergers and acquisition process, capital markets products including derivative transactions is an asset. Good working knowledge of external financial and regulatory environment from a risk perspective. Knowledge of domestic regulatory and legal systems.
