The salary range for this position is CAD $59.59/Hr. – CAD $85.65/Hr.Job SummaryCome work as a Director, Medical Affairs, Coastal Community of Care with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Director, Medical Affairs, Coastal Community of Care to join the team at Lions Gate Hospital.Reporting to the Senior Medical Director, the Director, Medical Affairs (DMA) provides senior level leadership to the Coastal Community of Care (CoC) Medical Affairs department. As part of a collaborative team this role partners with the Senior Medical Director, Associate Senior Medical Director (SMDs), VP Operations to set a culture, expectation, and accountability of patient quality and safety.As a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the DMA plays a key role in enabling the senior medical leaders through ensuring effective, responsive, and flexible medical affairs services. The DMA provides leadership in establishing key internal and external partnerships and relationships to advance strategic priorities and service-delivery goals and is accountable for the following program areas: credentialing and privileging; the negotiation, management, compensation, and performance evaluation of contracts; medical leadership development and practice; medical health human resource planning; medical staff engagement and wellness; and Data and IT Strategies.The Director manages and aligns the day-to-day operations of Medical Affairs for the Coastal CoC; liaises with, fosters exchange between, and supports consistency with the Medical Affairs Administration team; Leads and initiates all aspects of departmental projects and initiatives, and supports engagement between the CoC Medical Affairs and both internal and external partners.The Director provides strategic leadership to Medical Staff and Medical Administrative staff within the Coastal CoC, and in partnership with CoC Operations team to ensure the smooth functioning of the CoC Medical Affairs office for the CoC. The DMA maintains a high functioning partnership with VCH General Council and the Legal Department. The Director, Medical Affairs advances capacity development of the CoC’s Medical Affairs Portfolio by working collaboratively with both internal and external partners including Coastal CoC Operations Vice Presidents and Directors, Executive Medical and Academic Affairs Leadership Team, VCH People Team, Legal and Finance to develop and implement strategic plans and organizational structures to address the needs and operational requirements of the CoC.The role of Director requires exceptional partnership and relationship management skills to foster strong relationships with other senior leaders, DMAs within other Health Authorities, and forge partnerships within the Ministry of Health, Doctors of BC, and other provincial health governing, medical, and academic bodies.   • Develop and maintain excellent working partnerships and relationships with other members of SLT and Medical Leadership. Brings leadership, insight, and an ability to partner on complex issues that exist and arise within the region.
  • Under the direction of the SMD, the Director develops multi-year department objectives and annual plans, and oversees their implementation, specifically providing leadership in planning and implementing medical administration initiatives related to the delivery of medical-staff services.
  • Provide leadership in the development of strategic plans, goals, and objectives for the effective management of Medical Affairs in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values and Goals of Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH); works with the CoC’s Medical Affairs team to achieve them.
  • In partnership with other members of SLT, regularly assesses resource priorities and pressures; oversees resource allocation, effectiveness, and impact.
  • Identify potential liability issues and legal concerns, and in partnership with senior medical leaders seeks effective and timely interventions. And while offering strategic support for urgent and emergent issues, identifies trends and patterns that require system responses.
  • Working closely with the other members of the SLT, provides leadership in the coordination, collation, analysis, and strategy development for a comprehensive and responsive HHR plan to achieve sustainability, viability, and flexibility of a medical workforce.
  • Working closely with the other members of the SLT provides leadership in the strategy development and delivery of resources to support a sustained and well-prepared medical leadership pipeline.
  • Manage the fiscal resources of CoC Medical Affairs; establishes fiscal priorities; allocates resources; prepares and oversees the annual operating budget and capital equipment requests; monitors expenditures within established budgets; makes recommendations on current and future program and service adjustments; establishes monitoring and reporting systems; undertakes variance analyses; recommends actions as necessary to the SMD; and approves operating and capital expenditures within authorized limits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QualificationsEducation & Experience

  • A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in a related discipline such as Health Care Administration or Business Administration plus ten (10) years’ recent related experience in a senior administrative position within health care administration.

  • Has a working knowledge of current provincial policies, funding practices, PMA/ resident agreement requirements, Federal and Provincial Health Statutes, and other Ministry initiatives (such as HHR plan)
  • Responds effectively to the needs of stakeholders while maintaining an acute awareness of the impact of actions.
  • Strong business acumen with a demonstrated skill in utilizing data to inform and drive deliberation and decision making.
  • Able to navigate inherent and emergent complexities and tensions with interpersonal intelligence, and through insightful, and politically savvy interactions and engagements.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and engagement skills – with stakeholders, system partners, internal senior operational leads, diverse medical leaders, as well as their own team of directly accountable leaders and staff within the MAA Services portfolio.
  • Develops and maintains strong partnerships and relationships with key internal and external partners to promote and enhance services provided with sensitivity to diversity and Indigenous lens.
  • Practices the recognition, inclusion and support of all types and aspects of diversity at all stages of engagement, with an understanding of the issues faced by people from equity -deserving groups.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
