For more information, please visit www.jazzpharmaceuticals.com and follow @JazzPharma on Twitter.Job DescriptionBrief Description:The Director, Neuroscience Pharmacology ideates, directs, leads, and manages Jazz non-clinical Pharmacology projects from conceptualization and study design through to study report finalization and subsequent scientific publications, and inclusion in regulatory documentation. Leads interactions and collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders within non-clinical and across the wider organization.Essential FunctionsInitiates, directs, leads and manages preclinical pharmacology projects and/or studies as determined by the needs of the organisation and in accordance with the appropriate Jazz, CRO or academic researchers SOPs, relevant regulatory guidelines, legislation, best industry and ethical practices, and departmental processes as required per study.Contributes to functional and/or broader department strategy; uses wide ranging experience to resolve complex strategic issues in creative and effective ways; owns development and execution of strategic plans and objectives for Neuroscience Research.Operates independently with respect to new and ongoing project activities and decision making and contributes to new product concepts and defining development candidate profilesIs accountable to propose, manage and revise (as appropriate) timelines for pharmacology projects and for timely and effective management of the project budgetLeads cross-functional matrix teams and/or mixed internal/external matrix teams for assets in the discovery space and nonclinical teams supporting clinical stage assets. Through matrix leadership drives the efforts of other scientists and/or manages interactions and collaboration with key internal and external CRO and Pharma/Biotech stakeholders within non-clinical and across the wider organization including relevant key opinion leaders and academic research organizations.Directs and prioritizes non-clinical pharmacology study/program/project resource needs and proactively establishes relevant contingency/risk mitigation plans.Oversee, manage and provide technical input into scientific reports from CROs/AROsContribute to regulatory, pharmacovigilance and medical affairs documents as required to meet corporate needsContribute to Function and/or Project Teams as determined within the governance matrix structureHas overall control of planning, budgeting, managing expense priorities, and recommending and implementing changes to methods and familiarity with accrual based accounting principles as applied to scientific projects.Operates in an inclusive manner and demonstrates awareness of the benefits of diversityMay supervise other scientists as determined by the needs of the organisationRequired Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesStrong industry experience in a similar role and recognized as a technical expert in Neuroscience pharmacology. Experience in seizure and sleep indications is highly preferred.Demonstrated expertise in traditional and novel pharmacological approaches for the discovery of new medicines directed against novel molecular targets.A minimum of 10 years’ research experience in a Discovery/Pharmacology department of a pharmaceutical/biotech company or equivalent drug discovery setting.Comprehensive knowledge of the pharmaceutical drug development process, preclinical drug discovery and development with specific expertise in CNS diseases and neuropharmacology.Extensive knowledge of in vitro assay development, optimization and data analysis, target-based drug discovery approaches and parameters relevant to discovery, optimization and development of medicines for CNS diseases.Extensive experience in matrix leadership and/or representing Neuroscience Research on cross-functional teams and with senior R&D stakeholders.Significant experience in scientific writing (e.g. peer reviewed scientific publications) for externalisation and regulatory purposesProficient in budgetary control and managementProven ability of high functioning in a matrix organisationRequired/Preferred Education and LicensesA degree (BSc) and either higher degree (PhD) in Pharmacology or another appropriate scientific discipline or equivalent significant drug discovery experience (Neuroscience)Jazz Pharmaceuticals is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any characteristic protected by law.The successful candidate will also be eligible to participate in various benefits offerings, including, but not limited to, medical, dental and vision insurance, retirement savings plan, and flexible paid vacation.
