The Falklands Islands are immensely proud of their stewardship of its natural environment and they are keen to secure an exceptional candidate to lead the ongoing development of the Natural Resources Directorate.

The Role

As a member of the Government’s Corporate Management Team, the postholder will lead the development and operational delivery of all aspects of our natural resource portfolio and play a key role in the wider strategic leadership of the Falkland Islands Government.

Working in what can only be described as a unique and breath-taking environment, the Director of Natural Resources will oversee the ongoing development of each department within the Directorate; Fisheries Science and Operations, Offshore Hydrocarbons and Onshore Minerals, Agriculture, Veterinary Services as well as the development in emerging land and sea-based farming e.g. Kelp.

The Person

With expertise gained within a senior leadership role with fisheries, oil and gas or agriculture the Director of Natural Resources will possess:

  • A Degree (BA/Bsc) and professional qualification in a relevant subject area;
  • A proven track record of delivering strategic outcomes within a Fisheries and/or Hydrocarbons environment;
  • Successful experience in strategic planning;
  • Proven track record in effective management of a wide range of staff and resources;
  • Savvy stakeholder management – managing relationships and expectations;
  • Sound budgeting and resource planning experience.

The Package

  • An Initial 4 Year Fixed Term Contract;
  • Salary Range £106k – £127k, starting salary will be dependent upon qualifications and experience;
  • Eligibility for a 25% Gratuity, paid upon successful completion of the contract;
  • 30 Days Annual Leave, plus government and public holidays (totalling 41 days leave);
  • Relocation Allowance, to help with moving costs;
  • Flights Package for you and your dependents, including mid-term return flight home;
  • Government Housing for rent at a subsidised rate and a starter pack to help you settle in.

Please note, successful applicants with Falkland Islands Status/PRP will be employed on local terms and conditions.
