Lifting Hands International

Lifting Hands International is looking for a Director of Operations to join our team in Greece, starting in May 2025, with a minimum six-month commitment. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

About Us

Lifting Hands International operates a community center in Serres, a small city about an hour away from Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. We work with a population of 1000+ refugees at the local camps, providing regular aid distributions and a range of psychosocial support programs.

Role Profile

We are looking for someone who is hands-on, flexible, and excited to support a variety of activities and programs at the Community Center. Approximately 60% of this role will focus on tasks related to program manager support, while 40% will be dedicated to administrative tasks.

As Director of Operations, you will work closely with the Country Director, Director of Logistics, Director of Human Resources, and Director of Outreach and Development to lead and support the LHI team, ensuring the efficient implementation and meaningful development of LHI operations in Serres.

Core Tasks

  • Line management, strategic development, and collaboration with the four program managers of the Child Friendly Space, Female Friendly Space, Education Program, and Arts & Recreation
  • Overseeing all program activities at the LHI Community Center, ensuring program goals align with LHI’s vision and adapt to the evolving needs of the camp community
  • Providing field support and coordination in the Community Center to ensure smooth program operations and activities
  • Working within a team of four directors, overseeing a multicultural team of program managers, visiting volunteers, and community volunteers
  • Ensuring compliance with LHI’s safeguarding, safety, and security protocols, and updating them as needed
  • Being the point of contact for the safeguarding of community members and making appropriate referrals to services
  • Regularly updating the Country Director on program developments
  • Engaging with external partners and organizations to share best practices, inform operational decisions, and collaborate with other NGOs on advocacy efforts
  • Contributing to communications strategies and assisting in the creation of content for social media

Essential Criteria

  • People Management: At least 1 year of experience in a coordination role, including people management in a multicultural team.
  • Humanitarian Experience: Previous experience in implementing Psycho-Social Support programs and Safeguarding policies.
  • Teamwork: Strong communication skills with the ability to work efficiently in a large, multicultural team.
  • Professionalism: Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.
  • Proactive: Ability to work independently
  • Commitment: Minimum six-month commitment required.
  • Language: Fluent in English.

Desirable Criteria

  • Relevant degree(s) in a related field
  • Potential to stay on the team for 6-12 months
  • International driver’s license
