Director of Operations and Strategy, Refugee-Led Research Hub

Refugee Studies Centre

The Refugee-Led Research Hub (RLRH) is seeking a dynamic and seasoned leader to fill the role of Director of Operations and Strategy (DOS). As the Director of Operations and Strategy, you will play a critical leadership role in ensuring the smooth, efficient, and mission-centric functioning of the organisation. Your responsibilities will encompass a broad spectrum, including human resources, financial, operational, and legal matters; planning, monitoring, evaluation, and learning; and people and culture leadership.

To achieve this position, you will manage a team of dedicated staff and consultants to design, implement, and streamline RLRH operations and strategic direction. The DOS will report directly to and partner with the Executive Director. You will be based in the Oxford Department of International Development (ODID).

Your human resources and operations acumen will be vital as you develop and manage comprehensive organisational policies and procedures, oversee robust knowledge management practices, coordinate technology, and support recruitment, hiring, and onboarding across the organisation. In the financial domain, you will take the helm in overseeing financial management, producing accurate quarterly financial reports, managing the organisational budget, and supporting the Executive Director in liaising with grant-making bodies to secure and maintain funding.

Importantly, the Director of Operations and Strategy will help RLRH operationalise its commitments to its values and staff through the administration of a professional development programme, and by fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.

As a key relationship manager for RLRH, you will serve as a liaison to the RLRH in-person hub managers in Nairobi, Kakuma, East Oxford, and Kuala Lumpur, supporting and enabling hubs to be successful in meeting our mission. You will also be central to managing relations with RLRH’s esteemed host sites at Oxford and the British Institute in Eastern Africa (BIEA).

Through your effective team management, strategic planning, and cross-departmental collaboration, you will be instrumental in advancing the institution’s mission and goals, driving innovation, and fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
