Lifting Hands International is looking for a Director of Outreach & Development to start in Greece in January 2024 and commit for at least six months. About Us

Lifting Hands International operates a community center in Serres, a small city about an hour from Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. We work with a population of 500+ refugees at the 2 local camps, providing regular aid distributions and a range of psychosocial support programs.

Our Team
Here in Serres, we have an international team of Directors, Program Managers and Visiting Volunteers. We also foster a community-led approach by recruiting and supporting Community Volunteers, or camp residents (also referred to as community members) who lead and facilitate activities at the centre.

Role Profile

This is a dynamic role with varied core responsibilities. In this role, you will line manage and collaborate closely with the Community Engagement and Professional Development programs, as part of LHI’s wider effort in being community-led. You will also engage in outreach efforts to strengthen collaborations with external organisations, as well as best engage the community of camp residents. Equally, your focus will be on implementing capacity-building workshops and learning opportunities for both the coordination and visiting volunteer team by both developing training materials and involving coordination team members and/or external actors. Your time will be split between supporting the activities at the community centre and admin time.

As Director of Outreach and Development, you will work closely with the Country Director, Director of Operations, Director of Human Resources and Director of Logistics, Finance and Distributions to lead, empower and support the members of the LHI coordination team and to ensure the health and success of our Serres programs.

Core Tasks

  • Line management of and close collaboration with the Community Engagement Manager and Professional Development Manager, to ensure the recruitment, well-being and professional development of the community volunteer team
  • Outreach: strengthening partnerships and collaborations with external partners and organisations, as well as local actors. Coordinating their visit to the community center, involvement in our programs and sharing best practices to best support our community members & volunteers. Initiating outreach efforts to best engage the camp community
  • Development: creating & delivering capacity-building workshops for the coordination and visiting volunteer team, as well as collaborating with external partners to organise training sessions and maximise learning opportunities
  • Collaborating with the Operations Director in providing field support and coordination in the community centre to ensure program activities and operations run smoothly
  • Collaborating on communication strategies and supporting the creation of content for social media pages
  • Working in a small team of four directors, overseeing a large multicultural team of program managers, visiting volunteers, and community volunteers
  • Updating the Country Director on developments on a regular basis

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum six-month commitment, must be able to remain in Greece for the full period without visa restrictions
  • At least 1-year experience in a coordination role with organisations providing humanitarian aid
  • Previous experience in people management in a multicultural team
  • Deep understanding of the principles of Psychosocial Support, Community-based and Community-led Approaches, and Trauma-Informed Approach
  • Previous experience developing and implementing capacity-building trainings and workshops
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proactive, flexible, able to work in a self-directed way and under stress
  • Fluent English speaker

Desirable Criteria

  • Relevant degree(s) in a related field
  • Previous experience in working with community volunteers
  • Previous experience in developing partnerships
  • Potential to stay on the team for 6-12 months
  • International Drivers License
