‘More sport, less injury!’Podium Analytics was established in 2019 by former CEO & Chairman of the McLaren Technology Group, Sir Ron Dennis CBE with the aim of significantly reducing the incidence and impact of injury in youth and grassroots sport.As a charity and NGO Podium is transforming youth and grassroots sports safety through ground-breaking research projects with cutting-edge technology. It has the opportunity to influence global policies through partnerships with top academic institutions and sports organisations, most notably with their longstanding and first of its kind partnership with the University of Oxford.Following significant growth over the last five years, Podium is seeking to appoint a new Director of Research to lead the Applied Research team and manage the academic partnerships to help enable them to reach their ambition.This is a unique and outstanding opportunity to transform youth and grassroots sport.The Role;

  • Identify and prioritise research areas, ensuring strategic alignment with the Podium Institute for Sports Medicine and Technology based at the University of Oxford.
  • Oversee Podium-sponsored and externally funded research projects, collaborating with the CTO to ensure the SportSmart platform meets research needs. Design data collection and education processes in UK schools and clubs, applying behaviour change theories.
  • Contribute to the Senior Management Team by managing budgets and resources, leading multi-stakeholder projects, and ensuring governance and ethics compliance. Engage stakeholders and explore emerging research opportunities.
  • Foster collaboration to improve sports safety, commitment to continuous learning, and understand Podium’s people, context, and culture.
  • Develop and maintain influential relationships and a global network. Lead the Research Strategy Advisory Board, organise injury prevention forums, and support fundraising efforts.

The Person;

  • Minimum 10 years of post-graduate experience managing research projects, influencing policy, and shaping strategy in commercial or non-profit organisations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, diplomacy, and negotiation skills, with high discretion and confidentiality. Ability to meet tight deadlines and adapt within a small, dynamic team.
  • PhD in Sport Medicine, Sports Science, or Physiotherapy required.
  • Passion for sport, with a commitment to the organisation’s mission and a willingness to learn and grow.
  • Innovative problem solver who applies behaviour change theories to maximise data impact and translate findings into practical applications.
