DRC: Case Management Assistant – Sumy

JOB DESCRIPTION

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and implements emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for a Case Management Assistant in Sumy.

Overall purpose of the role:

Under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader, the Case Management Assistant will provide structured case management services to vulnerable individuals: conduct needs assessments, develop and fulfill action plans, provide client follow-up and make safe referrals to other service providers.

Main responsibilities:

  • Provide case management services, including needs assessment, action planning, and regular follow-up.
  • Make safe referrals to medical, legal, shelter and other service providers.
  • Provide cash or in-kind assistance to mitigate protection-related risks.
  • Organize awareness-raising sessions for communities.
  • Contribute to the development and dissemination of information materials.
  • Ensure proper documentation and safe storage of case files.
  • Coordinate with other DRC departments to facilitate referrals and information-sharing.
  • Contribute in developing and continuously updating a service mapping system detailing available services and assistance in DRC’s areas of operation
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Protection manager, relevant to the achievement of protection objectives.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have strong communication skills and previous experience in communications within the humanitarian or civil society sector.

Required:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with vulnerable individuals, staff members, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Comfortable in speaking about sensitive topics and working with people in distress.
  • Good time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Strong sense of personal integrity and understanding of confidentiality and ethics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange, Windows operating systems.
  • Ukrainian language skills required.

Desirable:

  • Experience in social work, case management, working with vulnerable groups (is an asset).
  • Relevant educational background in law, social work or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Good English language skills are preferred but not required.

We offer:

  • Contract length: 3 months’ probation, followed by a 6-month renewable contract (depending on funding).

  • Start date: October 15th, 2025

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national staff.
