DRC has been operating in the Middle East (ME) region for over a decade, running a combination of emergency, livelihood, protection and advocacy programmes through Country Offices (COs) in Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey with a Regional Office (RO) in Amman.

DRC Yemen’s response

Throughout its nine field offices and a workforce of 270 staff, DRC upholds its main programmatic objectives to provide immediate and life sustaining assistance, to strengthen the protective environment, and to reduce displacement related risks and vulnerabilities by promoting self-reliance at household and community level.

About the Job:

Overall

Under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader and in coordination with the Protection Officer, the Protection Assistant (PSS) will be responsible for facilitating recreational and psychosocial support activities for children, youth and adults within DRC’s Community Centers, as well as conducting awareness raising activities. The Protection Assistant will also support the creation of a schedule of activities for the center, as well as maintain the space equipped and organized and provide support to the CC Facilitators.

Responsibilities:

PSS intervention

• Facilitate and organize PSS and recreational activities at the DRC community centers for children, youth and adults;
• Conduct information sharing sessions and awareness sessions in DRC community centers on topics previously identified and agreed with the Protection Manager and the PSS Specialist;
• Assist in the set-up and organization of spaces and materials in the community center in preparation for the recreational, psychosocial, awareness raising, and information dissemination activities;
• Assist DRC Protection Officer to plan and maintain a schedule of activities at the community centers and in the IDP sites, and propose new ideas for activities;
• Assist DRC Protection Officer in identifying needs for material and equipment to conduct activities;
• Safely identify and mobilize community members to participate in activities at the community center;
• Greet, welcome, orientate, and register individuals accessing the community center;
• Raise awareness about the activities in the community center with the community including with community leaders and focal points;
• Safely identify and refer members of the community who require additional assistance and services in accordance with defined referral pathways and SOPs;

Monitoring and reporting

• Support the Protection Officer to produce and submit weekly reports and updated databases/tracking sheets to the Protection Team Leader;
• Support the implementation of monitoring and evaluation tools;
• Fill registration files, attendance sheets, and the necessary paperwork, ensuing adherence to data protection protocols.

Other

• Any other duties relating to the nature of the job as directed by the Protection Team Leader or Protection Officer;
• Maintain positive work relationship within the team, and promote team-building efforts in coordination with the Protection Officer and Team Leader;
• Must adhere to DRC’s mission, values, code of conduct including respect for the principles of neutrality, do no harm and non-discrimination;
• Must treat all partners and beneficiaries with dignity and respect;
• Participate in training and coaching as required on PSS curricula, the relevant SOPs and the data filing and storing procedures.

About you

To be successful in this role you must have:

Experience and technical competencies:

• At least 1 (one year) of experience in facilitating recreational and psychosocial support activities for children, youth and adults;
• Written and spoken Arabic;
• Effective oral communication skills;
• Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility;
• Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel);
• Must be willing to perform tasks as required by DRC and other partner agencies if relevant;
• Willing to collaborate with and support people from different ethnic groups and different religions;
• Demonstrated interest in humanitarian work and supporting people effected by conflict;
• Previous experience in international organizations a strong advantage.

Required qualifications:

Education:

• University degree in social work, education, or closely related fields; proven field experience can be accepted in lieu.

Languages:

• Arabic – Fluent

We offer

DRC will offer the successful applicant a contract until Jun 30, 2025, renewable dependent on both; funding and performance. You must be available to start work as soon as possible, and be willing and able to work in Khokha.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment. This position will be placed at Band (J Non-manager) and will be reporting to protection team leader.
