FAO Country Offices, working under overall corporate guidance and in line with the Strategic Framework, offer policy advice and support to countries in the mandated areas of FAO, facilitated through partnerships, resources and an active country programme to provide technical assistance, develop capacities and deliver core services while fully observing international standards of accountability to establish leadership and strengthen impact at the country level.
The offices deliver on the programmatic priorities of each country as agreed in their respective Frameworks aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and ensure effective and efficient operations with adequate human and financial resources.

Specifically, FAO Country Offices:

• advocate, inform and support policies and investments in the areas of FAO’s mandate.
• provide technical assistance and deliver core services.
• assist and catalyse partnership and resource mobilization activities to support agrifood systems transformation.
• position FAO as the specialized/authoritative technical agency in food and agriculture and agrifood systems transformation; and
• ensure risk-smart and accountable operations and management.

The position is located in the FAO Country Office in Wewak, Papua New Guinea.

The EU-funded programme entitled “Support to Rural Entrepreneurship, Investment and Trade in Papua New Guinea” (EU-STREIT PNG) is implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) as the United Nations Joint Programme (UNJP), in collaboration with the Government of Papua New Guinea (PNG) and other partner agencies such as ILO, UNCDF, UNDP and ITU. The programme aims to promote sustainable agriculture and rural development, with a particular emphasis on improving the living conditions of rural communities, with a great emphasis on gender equality and youth inclusion.

Reporting Lines

The Driver(s), under the overall guidance of the Head of the FAO Office in PNG and the overall supervision of the Programme Coordinator, EU-STREIT PNG, and with direct supervision of the International Finance and Administrative Specialist, EU-STREIT PNG, and technical support of the Gender Officer, FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, will work with the National Department of Agriculture and Livestock (DAL) and the Women in Agriculture Development unit (WiADU) of DAL.

Technical focus

Provide logistical support to field missions and transportations in Duty Station.

Tasks and responsibilities :

• Drives vehicle to transport relevant FAO staff, relevant government counterparts, and any other authorized personnel.
• Meet officials at the airport and assist with immigration formalities and customs clearance as required.
• Deliver correspondences and packages immediately to recipients. Ensure that the transport needs are known before leaving for mail deliveries.
• Ensure that the vehicle is kept in good condition, conducts routine check-ups on the vehicle, and advises when due for servicing.
• Ensure that the vehicle registration/ third party insurance and road worthiness are valid.
• Report vehicle accidents immediately to the office in line with local regulations and obtain quotations for vehicle repair and maintenance, if applicable.
• Provide logistical assistance to field missions.
• Support all transportation in Duty Station as per the schedules provided by supervisor.
• Maintain a log of official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, etc; and
• Perform other duties as requested.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• Completion of secondary school or equivalent is required.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience as driver
• Has a valid driver’s license
• Working knowledge of English
• National of Papua New Guinea or resident with valid work permit

Technical/Functional Skills

• Strong communications and reporting skills.
• Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable.
