Organizational Setting

The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programs, and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Reporting Lines

The Driver will work under the overall supervision and guidance of the FAO Representative to Liberia, and the direct supervision of the Head of Logistics with guidance and direction from the Senior FAO Driver.

Technical Focus

The incumbent displays professionalism in execution of his driving duties, ensures the safety and comfort of the passengers and longevity of the vehicles assigned. S/he shows a high sense of responsibility and trustworthiness and handles passengers and clients with utmost courtesy and respect.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Drives office vehicles ensuring timely, safe and smooth movement of authorized personnel and other authorized travellers;
• Demonstrate excellent knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair;
• Meets official personnel at the airport and facilitates immigration and customs formalities as required;
• Ensures compliance with UNDSS requirements for travel, including radio checks, availability of flak Jackets, helmets, UN flags and marks;
• Ensures accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs including mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.;
• Adhere to all rules and requirements as per Government of Liberia and UN/FAO procedures are followed in all cases and specifically in case of accidents;
• Demonstrate excellent knowledge of protocol and diplomatic issues;
• Responsible for washing and keeping the vehicle clean at all times
• Ensure provision of reliable and secure driving services by driving FAO officials including high ranking officials;
• Ensure cost-savings through proper use of vehicle and provision of inputs for preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and reports;
• Ensure proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements of major repairs, timely changes of oil, water, check of tires, brakes, car washing etc.
• Regular review/check up on the fitness, insurance, registration validity, battery etc. and inform to transport supervisor well ahead for further action;
• Ensure availability of all the required documents/ supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/ country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts on vehicle under use;
• Demonstrate excellent knowledge of security issues and be able to advise supervisors accordingly;
• Always take appropriate precautions for the security of the vehicle and its contents, including when left unattended.
• Ensure the office vehicle is properly and securely parked in the designated place during and or non-working hours.
• Consistently approaches work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude;
• Ability to work long hours and under pressure;
• Willingness to support during the weekends, in case of any emergency nature of activities;
• Be professional, courteous in all engagements, stay calm and positive even in difficult moments, handle tense situations with diplomacy and tact, and have a consistent behavior towards others;
• Must be willing to help/support the office with any other assistance when needed.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• The minimum educational requirement is high school diploma
• A valid driving license
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in any reputed organization
• Working knowledge of English.
• A Liberian national

• Extent and relevance of experience, preferably in UN environment
• Extent and relevance of experience in driving in different areas of Liberia
• Familiarity knowledge of working with VHF Radio navigation technology.
