Ecological Specialist

About the role
We are expanding our Ecological Services team and looking for an Ecological Specialist to
provide ecological advice and support for capital projects and business requests within
Northumbrian Water. The role will ensure NWG are minimising the environmental impact of our
investment opportunities and maximising our opportunities for improving biodiversity.
Working as part of team, you will be responsible for undertaking environmental screening for
our investment programme, to ensure that environmental impacts are minimised, all relevant
legislation met, and biodiversity enhanced. We would be looking for you to work with project
managers to develop options to meet Biodiversity Net Gain requirements, including maintenance
and surveys.
This role will be responsible facilitating and co-ordinating ecological works, including
applications for protected species licences. You will also be required to provide ecological
advice and services both within the team, and across the wider business.
About you

You will have proven experience in screening projects to assess their environmental impact and
hold a good awareness and understanding of environmental legislation and policies. You will
have proven experience in an environmental or ecological role.
Ideally you will have experience of collaborative working across a range of stakeholders and
hold knowledge of archaeological legislation and process. You should also have a proven ability
to write clear proposals and reports.

This role has also been defined as a safety or security critical role and as a condition of
a formal offer of employment you’ll be required to undergo a drug and alcohol test.
