The ecological lead for casework on wildlife legislation compliance provides technical support
for woodland operations and contributes to development of internal guidance, tactical, and
strategic advice. The role collaborates across the business to enhance environmental benefits
and biodiversity in sustainable forest management. As an ecological expert, the postholder will
support FLS staff in meeting the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy, UK Forestry Strategy, and
forest certification standards, working effectively with agencies and NGOs to advance
environmental goals on Scotland’s National Forests and Land.

This post sits within the National Environment team who are responsible for ensuring FLS meets
the required standards of environmental protection and management to enhance species and
habitats, conserves and enhances the environment, and deliver benefits for people and nature.
They are also responsible for updating technical guidance and provide specialist advice on
these specialist activities and ensuring that relevant staff receive necessary training and
support.

To be successful in this role you will have a track record of delivering or assisting in the
delivery of work programmes at considerable scale and have knowledge of species ecology and
habitat management techniques in the UK.
