Role description ‍‍ ‍ ‍

We are looking to further grow our team by recruiting an ecologist with geospatial
analyst experience to assist with curating our ecological mapping data and support the
company’s product strategy. The data will be used to train bespoke AI models and produce
outputs so organisations and businesses can measure, monitor and manage their biodiversity
assets for a nature-positive future. In this role, you will be hands-on with geospatial data
and provide input to our product features based on your ecological knowledge.

We are looking for someone competent in GIS mapping with some experience in field
ecology. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the full process of conducting
ecological surveys and digitising the results. They must be a good team player, but also
capable of working independently on a variety of tasks. This is the nature of startup
life!

Requirements

What you will do:

  • Manipulate vector data using GIS software to prepare files for model training or
    product delivery
  • Run custom-built software scripts and online apps to derive insights from
    imagery
  • Write reports identifying opportunities and recommendations for customers based on
    our mapping data
  • Contribute to proposal writing for new grant and project opportunities
  • Test and provide feedback on product features
  • Conduct research on data layers and market drivers to aid our product
    development
  • Perform research on ecological metrics and regulations globally
  • Support the Product roadmap and design

Essential:

  • Experience with GIS mapping software
  • Experience conducting ecological surveys in the field
  • Ability to plan, organise, and prioritise a dynamic workload
  • Excellent written and spoken communication in English

Good to have:

  • Experience conducting habitat surveys using UKHab and/or the Phase 1
    system
  • Bachelor degree or master’s degree in ecology, geography, biology, or
    similar
  • Previous experience working with satellite imagery
  • Programming skills in Python, MATLAB, R, or other high level languages
