Ecology Assistant x4

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust

Ecology Assistant (Up to 4 Positions Available)
Ongoing Zero Hours Contract
£12.60 per Hour (from 01 April 2025)
Location: Various across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is the leading local nature conservation charity
and is one of the largest of the county-based Wildlife Trusts with a lively, dedicated and
passionate team of over 100 staff and 1400 volunteers.

We are looking for reliable individuals with a passion for wildlife and nature conservation to
join Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. The successful applicants will join our busy
Arcadian Ecology team to assist in the delivery of the ecological monitoring of the Trust’s
Estate and support Trust staff on externally funded project work. Our consultancy, Arcadian
Ecology & Consulting, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hampshire & Isle of Wight
Wildlife Trust.

The summer months are our busiest time of the year for conducting a range of ecological surveys
in both Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Therefore, we’re looking for people to join and
support our team during this period. The post holders will require a driver’s licence or other
means to ensure that you can attend all site locations required, this involves sites that are
remote from public transport and work will include early mornings and evenings, and ideally
have some ecological survey experience to order to provide support to our ecologists on a range
of survey work (including phase 1 habitat survey, soil, bats, butterflies, bumblebees,
reptiles, water vole, Odonata, Orthoptera, earthworm and white-clawed crayfish), data
collection and collation, data analysis, use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS),
laboratory analysis, equipment maintenance (including implementing the Trust’s biosecurity
protocol) and team working. Equipment, in-house training and support will be provided.

A key area of our work this year will be surveys on the Isle of Wight at our rewilding sites,
ideally suited to somebody who regularly visits or is based on the island. Joining our team is
an exciting opportunity for people who want to learn more about ecology, rewilding and
nature-based solutions, to develop their fieldwork and species identification experience, or
who are qualified ecologists looking for flexibility in the hours they work.

In this role you’d join us on a seasonal, zero hours basis. Some out of hours work (including
early mornings and late nights will be required).

Application Deadline: 30 March 2025
