Job DescriptionAs an Editorial Workflow Manager (EWM) in Advanced Learning Editorial, your primary role will be the leadership and management of a team of 5-8 squad managers (SM), each of whom manage an 8 person team of editorial assistants (EA). This includes coordination of process roll out and changes, capacity management, and knowledge sharing and training. You will be jointly accountable, with the Senior Publishers, for the delivery of the annual frontlist plan for a business unit within the editorial division (profit centre).What you will be doing:

  • Deliver frontlist publication plan for profit centre.
  • Develop, monitor and be accountable for a core set of workflow and performance related KPIs.
  • Lead & manage a group of squad managers, engaging in recruitment, colleague onboarding, performance management, and talent development.
  • Active monitoring of workload capacity, in conjunction with Squad Managers. Including dynamic capacity management for core EA tasks within profit centres & facilitating work sharing both between squads and intra profit centre.
  • Responsible (with other EWMs) for setting standard processes around recruitment, training, on-boarding and re-deployment of EAs across Editorial as a whole.
  • Liaise with process and data team to evolve and streamline processes as well as cascade changes. Triaging feedback from SMs on issues around process, liaising with heads of frontlist production on issues with other depts.
  • Partner with Senior Publishers & Editorial Director to ensure all commissioning groups are appropriately resourced and supported to deliver on strategic growth targets.
  • Represent requirements of profit centre in key cross functional forums, including large process improvement or system change projects.
  • Champion and progress proposals for change from within the team that will benefit the department as a whole.
  • Collaborate with fellow EWMs & HR colleagues to support a coordinated AL Editorial approach to professional development opportunities.

QualificationsWhat we’re looking for:

  • Significant experience working in an academic publishing environment
  • Strong ability to appropriately communicate and effectively influence both upstream and downstream within the organization
  • Experience of management of the performance and workload of large and complex teams.
  • Proven ability to work & collaborate successfully across different business functions
  • Project management experience
  • Experience of managing process change
  • Experience of strategic goal setting and planning, as well as delivering team performance against commercial KPIs
  • Problem solving & conflict resolution
