Education Officer

We are looking for a talented educator with a passion for inspiring people to love the natural
world, feel included, and realise their potential. 

The role 

The Education Officer will join a small team who facilitate inclusive, fun outdoor learning
programmes for young people and adults at Aigas Field Centre, in school grounds, and in green
spaces across the Highlands of Scotland. They will design and create activities that engage
learners with diverse needs and interests. As well as assisting with administration and
fundraising, they will be responsible for our social media output. This is a full-time
permanent position and involves some evening shifts and occasional early morning starts.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following skills, attributes and experience: 

• A friendly, inclusive attitude and a genuine interest in people. They will appreciate and
  value a broad range of participants. 
• Passion and curiosity about the natural world and an interest in learning. Awareness of
  conservation issues, particularly in the Highlands. 
• At least a year of experience working with children and young people. This can include
  voluntary or unpaid work. Experience of working with neurodivergent people and those with
  different learning and communication needs would be beneficial, as would awareness of the
  Scottish education system. 
• A reasonable level of fitness and mobility. They will be able to work outdoors in a wide
  range of weather conditions while being responsible for others.
• Adaptability and problem-solving skills. 
• Excellent communication skills and affinity for connecting with people of different
  neurotypes, ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
• Enjoy working in a small team, as well as independently.
• Full driving license. Experience driving a variety of vehicles would be beneficial.

About us 

Naturedays is the project title for environmental education work carried out by The Aigas Trust
(SC005053). We are a small, supportive, and collaborative team who are proud to provide
inclusive, nature-based outdoor learning across the Scottish Highlands. We facilitate field
trips and outreach visits for primary and secondary schools, activity days for young people who
are not in full-time mainstream school, and open days in school holidays. We are committed to
finding creative ways to remove barriers to learning and having fun in the outdoors, so that
people of any age, background, or ability can join in.

We are based at Aigas Field Centre, a family-run centre with nearly 50 years’ track record of
wildlife holidays, ecological restoration and environmental education. Aigas staff are a
community of likeminded naturalists from all over the UK. It is a busy, welcoming environment
to live and work in.
