We are currently working with an exciting start-up company based in Cambridge that is working on bringing to market a novel energy storage application. As the company continues to grow with recent funding secured, they are now looking to hire an Electrochemist to strengthen its R&D team on a permanent, full-time basis.As an Electrochemist, you will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge research, developing electrochemical processes, and contributing to the advancement of our client’s energy storage applications.The ideal candidate should hold a PhD in Chemistry (or closely related), coupled with a strong background in electrochemistry and understanding of electrochemical cells (batteries, supercapacitors, electrolysis and/or fuel cells).Key Responsibilities:

  • Researching and evaluating performance improvements in our client’s energy storage cells to achieve the potential of the technology.
  • Leading and supporting the Senior Scientist on individual research projects, contributing to the setting of objectives and scheduling of work.
  • Manage resources on a daily basis – setting objectives and scheduling work.
  • Using a range of electrochemical techniques to provide targeted recommendations and solutions that benefit the wider research group and the development of the technology.
  • Lead electrochemist testing capacity.
  • Contribute to various research and development programmes when required: Being the electrochemical testing lead for some individual programmes.
  • Owning and ensuring the safe, efficient use of various processes and equipment.
  • Where appropriate, liaising with external suppliers, directly or in a supportive capacity.

Key Requirements:

  • PhD (Preferred) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field with a focus in electrochemistry.
  • Robust theoretical knowledge in electrochemistry and electrochemical techniques & principles
  • Electrode modification and characterisation experience is advantageous.
  • Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) experience is also advantageous.
  • Teamwork experience and skills.
  • High perseverance and ability to build upon constructive criticism.

Salary: £40,000 -£45,000
Location: Cambridge
Role: Full-time, permanent
