This is an exciting opportunity to manage and deliver the KTP project plan which aims to develop a universal low power motorised shading solution. The mechanism will be capable of communicating with all existing Building Management Systems (BMS), enabling retrofitting, together with new installations. The intelligent built-in controls, incorporating a range of technologies, allow the motorised shading system to automatically raise or lower in response to changes in outdoor and indoor temperature and sunlight conditions throughout the day.
Main duties and responsibilities
As the successful candidate, you will be expected to successfully carry out the prototyping, testing and operation of the motorised shading system. In addition, you will handle data collection and analysis and contribute on the design and organisation of the project as well as work with academic team members on writing peer reviewed journal papers and delivering presentations at workshops and conferences. Furthermore, you will be expected to disseminate the results and outputs of the project and ensure the collating and writing of final project deliverables are a high standard. You will take an active part in the academic life across the School through participation in seminars and other similar events.
Skill and experience required
The role requires knowledge of Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) design and a good experience in building and troubleshooting electric and electronic circuits. You should have strong planning and organisation abilities and experience in project management. In addition to this you will be extremely methodical, demonstrate excellent attention to detail, able to meet deadlines as a team and independently, as well as be able to handle sensitive data with strict confidence. Experience of working in a research environment and good time management and presentation skills are essential to this role.
Hours of work are 40 per week (8 hours per day from 08:00 am to 17:00 pm Monday to Friday) however, some flexibility can be applied under certain circumstances.
Qualifications required
You will have a minimum of a BSc (or equivalent qualification) in Electronics & Electrical Engineering or related field. An MSc (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant Engineering field is desirable.
An appointment to this role may require an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate.
