To help achieve our business plans, Bruce Power currently has an opportunity for an Engineer/Engineer Trainee in the Reactor Design Section in Plant Design Engineering.

This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

What will you be responsible for?

In this role, you will be part of a team of design engineers responsible for performing engineering activities associated with design. You will ensure that design activities are completed in accordance with required standards, legislation or regulations directly, or through assisting Registered Professional Engineers. Your design activities are to be completed in compliance with Design Management processes and procedures. You will perform or support Responsible Design Engineering responsibilities in addressing Engineering Holds, Station Condition Records, vendor technical information, inquiries from the Stations and configuration issues that may arise with Systems Structures and Components in the stations.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Prepare/verify engineering changes for systems and components to support operations and/or capital programs.

  • Prepare/verify/revise design basis documentation and maintain design basis configuration. This includes, but is not limited to, design plans, design requirements, design specifications, design calculations / reports, overpressure protection reports, flow diagrams, et al.

  • Prepare technical specifications for engineering services and work with engineering service providers in the area of engineering analysis as required in support of planned or emergent work.

  • Perform engineering evaluations related to system/component design issues.

  • Assess and respond to engineering requests which support Operations, Maintenance, Supply Chain and other organizations in addressing design/technical issues with systems/equipment/components.

  • Lead or support project delivery through all phases from conceptual through closeout. Interface with CNSC/TSSA on regulatory and pressure boundary issues. This includes the preparation/review of formal correspondence and design registration submissions.

  • Review existing analyses and extract relevant information.

  • Recommend improvements / opportunities based on lessons learned and operating experience.

  • Maintain all necessary skills and qualifications required to perform the role

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of the Codes & Standards (ASME Section II, III & VIII & B31.1, CSA N285/6 & B51).

  • Knowledge of CNSC regulatory requirements and documents.

  • Knowledge of design basis management processes and procedures, including engineering change control.

  • Experience in the design, maintenance and/or operation of mechanical components (valves, piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers).

  • Knowledge of manual and computerized engineering analysis (eg. Fluid/thermodynamics, stress analysis) will be considered an asset.

  • Knowledge of seismic analysis will be considered an asset.

  • Ability to communicate clearly, both in written and oral communication.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Ability to learn quickly.

  • Highly developed problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to estimate, prioritize and schedule tasks and complete according to plan.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Detailed knowledge of Section III of the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code Subsections NCA, NB, NC, ND and NE related to analysis will be considered an asset.

Education and Experience:

Engineer (Occupation Code 670325)

  • Completion of a 4-year University degree in Engineering.

  • An Ontario Professional Engineering designation is required (P.Eng).

  • A period of over 6 years, up to and including 8 years’ experience is considered necessary to gain this experience.

Engineering Trainee (Occupation Code 670207)

  • Completion of a 4-year University degree in Engineering

  • Required to obtain a valid Professional Engineers of Ontario certification.

  • A period over 2 years, up to and including 4 years of experience is considered necessary.
