Enhancing adherence to exercise rehabilitation programmes for musculoskeletal conditions (Ref: SSEHS/IT)

About the Project

Adherence to exercise rehabilitation is essential for effective recovery and optimal outcomes. However, rehabilitation is often boring, monotonous, sometimes lonely, and benefits are not immediately obvious. These features explain why adherence rates across a range of musculoskeletal conditions are worryingly low.

The aim of the proposed PhD project is to build on recent work at Loughborough University by applying several motivational processes to enhance rehabilitation adherence and improve important functional outcomes.

This project will be supervised by Dr Ian Taylor, a leading expert in motivation and optimising adherence, and you will be part of a research team that includes national and international experts.

You will be based within the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University, ranked best in the world for sports-related subjects eight years running and lead academic institution for the National Rehabilitation Centre.

94% of Loughborough’s research impact is rated world-leading or internationally excellent. REF 2021
