Environment Outreach and Education Officer

The local charity, Habitats & Heritage, is seeking a part time environment officer to help engage
local groups and residents with initiatives connected to environment and nature. Types of work
you will engage with include: education and citizen science projects; leading practical
workdays; community engagement projects; H&H Green hubs; youth and corporate volunteering.
We are looking for a candidate with a positive attitude with experience in leading conservation
work activities and in education or community outreach. The successful applicant will also be
actively engaged in fundraising, communication and project management. This post is fixed term for one year.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

1. To plan and lead nature conservation and public engagement sessions – including writing risk
   assessments and delivering health and safety briefings.
2. To manage citizen science projects – recruiting and training volunteers and overseeing the
   collection and recording of data.
3. To create environmental education resources for physical and digital consumption – including
   sessions, walks and talks.
4. To form and maintain a schools eco network.
5. To engage communities, including harder to reach groups, in improving the environment for
   biodiversity.
6. To liaise with local authorities and management contractors to plan and deliver a programme of
   activities.
7. To complete monitoring report forms, volunteer records and other administrative tasks.
8. To undertake training where appropriate.
9. To deputise on behalf of the Nature Conservation Manager and cover the Community Projects officer as and when required.
10. To develop and lead projects that the candidate has an interest and/ or expertise in.
