Environmental Clerk of Works based in South Wales or South West England

TACP (UK) Ltd is a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive environmental consultancy based in Cardiff,
South Wales www.tacp.co.uk. We are looking for individuals
with site based environmental experience with a keen interest in the environment and
construction to work as an Environmental Clerk of Works. The role will be predominantly based
on a construction site in South Wales or SW England.

This is an opportunity for career development within an established environmental consultancy
including working with our Environmental Clerk of Works (ECoW) team and alongside Landscape
Architects, Ecologists and Environmental Planners.

Proposed outline package:

  • A competitive salary circa £30-40K depending on skills, knowledge and experience,

    5 days

The Environmental Clerk of Works will work closely with the site team alongside the Project
Ecologist, Environmental Co-ordinator and other specialists as appropriate to ensure the site
is adhering environmental legislation and best practice, protected species licences and other
consents, method statements, and carrying out or co-ordinating surveys and monitoring.

Key elements of the role include the following:

  • Site based Auditing and monitoring of works onsite
  • Working with the contractor to ensure environmental risks are identified in advance and
    appropriate planning is identified
  • To check and consider site conditions with the contractor in advance of works, to identify
    any on-site problems and to recommend corrective action.
  • Support the contractor in the preparation of Construction Environmental Management Plan,
    method statements etc as required
  • Develop and/or implement environmental permit to work system, ECoW observations and
    reporting
  • Check contractor works information to ensure methodology and materials match works
    information requirements. Specific checks include documents such as Risk Assessment Method
    Statement (RAMS), Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and Material Acceptance Forms (MAFs).
  • Liaise with the project team members, including contractors, sub-contractors and
    authorities on all site matters and interfacing works.
  • Input into Environmental Liaison Group and other consultation meetings as required.
  • Set up and undertaken noise, air quality and water quality monitoring as required
  • Carry out or co-ordinate ecological surveys and monitoring
  • Review technical queries raised by the contractor as required
  • Review and implement construction processes and contracts
  • Carry out site inspections and materials management
  • Collate information for Constructing Excellence, CEEQUAL or other award schemes as
    appropriate

The successful candidate will have some, if not all of the following skills;

Required Skill(s):

  • Office 365 – a good working competency, (GIS an advantage but not essential as training can
    be provided)
  • A Full UK Driving licence
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good understanding of Health and Safety and Hazard identification
  • Site based environmental knowledge
  • Understanding of water management; noise and air quality monitoring
  • Understanding of construction methodologies, operations, and processes
  • Relevant qualifications and at least 3 years of relevant experience
  • CSCS accreditation
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as CIEEM and IEMA

An advantage to have:

  • Preferably have a Landscape, Environmental Sciences or Engineering qualification or with a
    strong interest in the environment.
  • Protected species licences
  • Early identification knowledge of INNS on the project and management of the remedial
    measures
