Do you have experience in environmental investigations? Do you have a confident and flexible
approach? If so, and you are looking for a role which is a mix of in-office work and fieldwork
across our picturesque region, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our
Environmental Solutions team as an Environmental Scientist.
Interviews for this role will be conducted in early September.
What you’ll do
You will provide support to the Senior Environmental Scientists in the delivery of our
environmental investigations through the collection and analysis of river flow, groundwater,
water quality, and hydro-ecology data.
You will be responsible for assisting in the design and implementation of investigations to
ensure we meet our environmental obligations, undertaking in-field hydrological monitoring,
including river flow and groundwater level monitoring.
You will also assist in macroinvertebrate and sediment sampling, habitat and fish surveys, as
well as water quality sampling and monitoring using a range of instruments and analysers.
As part of the role, you will be required to provide quality assurance, analysis of data and
assist in reporting this to the Environment Agency, Natural England and wider stakeholders.
The role will also provide monitoring and support services to other departments, the
Environment Agency and stakeholders to meet licence requirements and agreements.
What you’ll need
To be successful, you need to have a good knowledge and understanding of the tools and methods
available for hydrological and water quality monitoring.
You will be able to plan your workload and work efficiently alone.
You will also need:
Experience using ArcView/GIS packages, as well as programming languages, such as R or Python,
would be beneficial but are not a requirement.
Due to the nature of the role and the duties you will be expected to undertake, it is essential
you can swim and hold a valid driving licence. A company vehicle will be provided for travel.
