Overview
The Epidemiologist will work within the Digital Health Unit (DHU) at the National Department of Health (NDoH). The position will support the NDOH – DHU with epidemiological inputs into digital health products and services for surveillance data management, data analysis, visualization, and use. This role involves designing, analyzing, and implementing epidemiological models and methodologies within the public health sector, particularly focusing on the application of digital health technologies.
Responsibilities
Design, analysis and implementation
- Oversee the development and maintenance of project related epidemiological databases
- Coordinate and perform statistical analysis for input to the digital tool design
- Advise and consult on statistical methods for data outputs and visualizations
- Assist with product development, including sample size calculations and advice on appropriate data collection tool design

Oversee data analysis and write up project results as directed.
- Outcome: Epidemiological models applied in Digital Health product development
Developing epidemiological strategies for operational research
- Assist to developing research projects and protocols

Stay informed of current research and methods to identify new research opportunities
- Outcome: Protocols developed and submitted to NDOH
Data dissemination
- Assist with writing scientific publications, including background and methods sections of manuscripts for peer reviewed journals
- Write abstracts and be capable of presenting posters or oral presentations at appropriate conferences

Interpret and disseminating research findings internally and to external stakeholders, including to policy makers and implementers
- Outcome: Publications, abstracts, manuscripts documenting the processes.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Health Sciences, Statistics or Epidemiology
- Masters in Epidemiology ore related field will be highly recommended
- At least 5 years’ experience project and data management experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the public health environment as an epidemiologist
- Demonstrable proficiency in statistical software such as SAS and STATA (preferred)
- Experience working with NDOH will be an added advantage
- Ability to demonstrate diplomacy, sensitivity, and respect for confidentiality is essential
- Effective organizational skills, attention to details and ability to handle a large volume of work in an efficient and timely manner
- Highly motivated, energetic, independent self-starter with strong team
- Demonstrated use of initiative and ability to make appropriate linkages in work requirements and anticipate next steps
- Strong presentation and communications skills, oral and written English language skills
- Strong Proficiency in computer applications to include MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerBI, and PowerPoint
- Ability to travel (nationally 10 to 20%)
- Valid driver’s license
