Position Summary
We are seeking an Epidemiology and Data Science Consultant to support the Guinea Worm Eradication Program (GWEP). The ideal candidate will analyze large health datasets using advanced statistical methodologies and engage effectively with country teams to promote the uptake of data-driven evidence for strategic decision-making. This role reports to the Senior Associate Director for Data and Analytics and works closely with GWEP staff and external partners.
Minimum Qualification
- MPH/MSc in epidemiology, biostatistics, data science, or a related quantitative field.
- Experience in statistical analysis, including statistical tests and regression.
- Skilled in analyzing epidemiological, public health, surveillance, and other health data.
Preferred qualification and Skills
- Ph.D. in epidemiology, biostatistics, data science, or a related quantitative field.
- Strong background in infectious disease modeling (e.g., statistical, mathematical, and/or machine learning models).
- Familiarity with geospatial data analysis, including building models to understand the spatio-temporal distribution of infections, their determinants, and interrelationships.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as R or Python for epidemiological analysis.
- Knowledge of electronic data collection tools such as ODK Central.
- Strong ability to communicate findings to non-technical audiences.
- Published articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Working knowledge of French language will be a bonus
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct analysis of large-scale epidemiological datasets from disease surveillance systems.
- Develop and implement infectious disease models to predict trends, assess interventions, optimize disease control strategies, and gain insights from data.
- Apply statistical and machine learning techniques to improve disease forecasting and outbreak detection.
- Contribute to the design of data visualizations and dashboards using Power BI to communicate complex health data insights.
- Support the integration of electronic data collection platforms (e.g., ODK Central) with analytical pipelines.
- Work with Ministries of Health, global health partners, and field teams to strengthen data-driven decision-making.
- Ensure data quality and reproducibility by implementing best practices in data cleaning, transformation, and validation.
- Lead and contribute to scientific publications, reports, andpresentations based on research findings.
- Performs related responsibilities as required.
- May travel internationally.
