The School, which played a critical role in the COVID-19 pandemic response, went through a dramatic renaissance after the 2003 SARS crisis and it is now the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto and the world. With $76 million in research funding per year, including more than $31.5 million held at DLSPH, the School contributes to improving population health and health policy and health systems through discoveries and innovation in data science and AI, maternal, child and reproductive health, climate change [response], implementation and improvement sciences, preventable disease through vaccines and prevention through [and] wellness such as with diabetes, comparative health policy, sustainable and equitable health systems, global and Indigenous health, among many other areas.Your opportunity:In this position, you will play an integral part in the Faculty’s commitment to training the next generation of public health and health system leaders by supporting staff, faculty and students to better understand, respond, lead in the area of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility (EDIA). As the EDIA Advisor for the Faculty, you will create and promote innovative and accountable diversity and equity related programming in collaboration with other members of the DLSPH community as well as external partners and community organizations.You will help lead a variety of strategic and systemic EDIA priorities, education and training initiatives in collaboration with DLSPH community stakeholders. Your ability to thoughtfully drive and manage change for different groups will be critical to success in this role. You will also serve as a key resource on emerging EDIA issues and promising practices, and you will help triage and manage requests for information, consultation, and advice on a wide variety of EDIA-related concerns throughout the Faculty.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Serving as the key point of contact and liaison with faculty and staff in various departments/units to coordinate education and training activities
  • In collaboration with a variety of stakeholders, contributing to the design and delivery of anti-racism and equity-based education and training for faculty and staff
  • Creating project toolkits and templates for distribution/dissemination
  • Responding to requests for consultation and guidance, and triaging EDI-related matters and concerns across the Faculty
  • Promoting and expanding equity-based mentorship program development, and providing ongoing support, advice, and training to departments and units across the faculty
  • Overseeing work study students’ work, including setting project goals and delegating responsibilities.

Essential Qualifications:

  • University degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum three to five years’ related experience successfully implementing and delivering equity, diversity and inclusion programming, training and education
  • A thorough understanding of equity, diversity, inclusion, social justice principles, discrimination and harassment prevention frameworks
  • Demonstrated experience researching, developing and/or facilitating educational workshops & programs, public education materials and community initiatives related to human rights education
  • Knowledge and significant experience with learners, leadership and related academic audiences
  • Fundamental understanding of the Ontario Human Rights Code and relevant legislation/case law
  • Demonstrated abilities to multi-task, troubleshoot and problem solve independently
  • Experience supporting and providing consultation in EDIA matters
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite and virtual event platforms
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and leadership skills
  • Excellent organizational and programming skills; ability to develop and deliver effective presentations and workshops
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse constituencies and communities in a team environment
  • Ability to be innovative and work independently
  • Ability to relate to learners, staff, and faculty that builds trust and confidence
  • Effective tact, discretion and good judgement in dealing with highly confidential and sensitive situations
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
  • Ability and inclination to keep knowledge, understanding and skills up-to-date and relevant, including current issues, promising practices and current methodologies for promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives

Assets (Nonessential):

  • Professional experience in and understanding of complex issues related to equity and diversity in an academic or health care environment is strongly preferred
